$1 Movies, Rewards for Reading, and Free Bowling ... Summer Success - Columbia SC Moms BlogSqueezing in some fun time in the summer can sometimes be challenging….schedules, cost, different interests, and so much more. For my family we’ve narrowed it down to three must-haves that are little to no cost to us.

Summer Movie Express

popcorn-1433326_1920This is one of my favorites simply because taking my family to the movies any other time can cost an arm and a leg. In the summer we can see fairly new releases for $1 per person. You read that right: $1 per person. Movies start at 10:00 a.m. (although I’ve learned that recently they have multiple theaters open and they stagger the start times just a little). Both movies for the week play on Tuesday and Wednesday. This summer the movie express starts on June 7 at Regal Columbia Cinema 7 on Forrest Drive and at Regal Columbiana Grande Stadium 14 on Bower Parkway.

This Summer’s Line Up:

Week 1
The Lego Movie
Max

Week 2
Goosebumps
The Iron Giant: Signature Edition

Week 3
Pan
The Smurfs 2

Week 4
Despicable Me 2
Home

Week 5
Minions
The Peanuts Movie

Week 6
Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Road Chip
Curious George

Week 7
The Book of Life
Hotel Transylvania 2

Week 8
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
Shaun The Sheep

Week 9
The Croods
Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax

Also, check out their calendar of events to find out what is happening at your local branch. There are numerous events every week that are usually free or very minimal cost to you. Check out a Lego Block Party, toddlertime, TeenScene, the Marionette Theater, SC Aquarium, and so much more. There’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Richland County Public Library:

While you’re at it, don’t forget to check out the many events going on at the local branches. You will find a wide variety of events offered for birth to adult.

Kids Bowl Free

bowling-237905_1920While this one does cost a little bit more, it is worth it; especially if you purchase the optional family pass so you and named adults can bowl too. Every day kids get to bowl 2 games for free from April 13 to September 5. All you pay is cost of shoe rental. I invested in an inexpensive pair of bowling shoes a few summers back so that has really made this an inexpensive, fun way for my family to get out of the house.

There are 2 locations in the Midlands: Royal Z Lanes on Two Notch Rd. and Anchor Lanes on Columbia Ave. in Irmo. Register today to get the most out of your passes.

What are your go to inexpensive summer vacation activities?
