EdVenture’s Star Spangled Day

Cost: Free with purchase of museum admission

Details: Celebrate the 240th birthday of the USA! Indulge in a Red, White, and Blue birthday cake, learn patriotic songs, listen in on Independence Day story times, learn the science behind fireworks, and join in a parade in the museum led by none other then Uncle Sam!


Lake Murray Boat Parade 2016

Date: Saturday, July 2, 2016

Time: 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Location: Parade begins at Bomb Island heading towards the dam

Cost: Free, but if watching from one of the Lake Murray Dam park sites admission is $2 per car.

Details: The theme for this year is “Saluting Our Troops.” Call or stop by the Lake Murray Country Visitors Center to get registered. (2184 North Lake Drive, Columbia, (803) 781-5940 x0)  The best place to view the Boat Parade is via boat, but it can also be seen at the park sites at the Lake Murray Dam.


29th Annual Carolina Celebration of Liberty

Date: Sunday, July 2, 2016

Time: 7:30 p.m. (only performance time with tickets still available)

Location: First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201

Cost: Free, but must reserve tickets in advance by calling (803) 256-4251.

Details: The Carolina Celebration of Liberty is a flag waving celebration of our freedom and those who have sacrificed to preserve and protect it. With a cast of more than 400, thousands of flags, and indoor fireworks your whole family will be thrilled with this wonderful presentation!


Lake Murray Fireworks Celebration 2016

Date: Saturday, July 2, 2016

Time: approximately 9:15 p.m. (gates at Dreher Island State Park close at 8 p.m.)

Location: Multiple – Lake Murray Dam park sites and walking path, 2068 North Lake Drive, Columbia , SC 29210 or 1832 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072; Dreher Island State Park, 3677 State Park Road, Prosperity, SC 29127

Cost: Lake Murray Dam park sites – $3 per car; Walking path on Lake Murray Dam – free; Dreher Island State Park – $2 for adults, $1.25 SC Seniors, FREE for children 15 years and younger.

Details: Beginning at dusk (approximately 9:15 p.m.) South Carolina’s largest fireworks display on beautiful Lake Murray. Fireworks will be set off from two great locations: Spence Island and Dreher Island State Park. The show is choreographed to a patriotic concert that will air simultaneously on B106.7. The best places to view the fireworks are Dreher Island State Park and both parks at the Lake Murray dam. Bring a chair or blanket, picnics are welcomed. No Alcohol Permitted at any of the locations.


Star Spangled Symphonic Salute

Date: Sunday, July 3, 2016

Time: Games, food, and activities will be available beginning at 7:00 p.m. The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m.

Location: Saluda Shoals Park, 5605 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212

Cost: Concert is free with park admission ($5 for car or mini-van, $7 passenger van w/12+ seats, $11 bus)

Details: Celebrate Independence Day at Saluda Shoals Park with a concert featuring the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra! The Symphony will perform a range of music from Broadway songs to patriotic music to sing-alongs! Remember to bring a picnic blanket or chair. A food truck and Kona Ice will offer food for purchase. Ed’s Bartending will also have beer and wine available for purchase. No coolers or alcoholic beverages. Pets are discouraged from the event area.


EdVenture’s Military Appreciation Day

Date: Monday, July 4, 2016

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Location: EdVenture, 211 Gervais Street, Columbia , SC 29201

Cost: Free admission for all military and their families!

Details: All guests are invited to explore the museum, participate in patriotic activities and leave their mark on the EdVenture handprint American flag to honor fallen soldiers. Free lunch provided for all military dependents 12 and under.

Fort Jackson

4th of July 5K Fun Run/Walk

Date: Saturday, July 2, 2016

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m

Location: Hilton Field Sports Complex, Bldg 3900-E Hampton Pkwy, Fort Jackson, SC 29207

Cost: Free

Details: Kick off your 4th of July Holiday by putting your running shoes on and start the day by participating in the Fun Run. Have option to purchase a race T-Shirt for $10. This run is also part of the Centennial Runs which you can sign up for. Race start will be held at Hilton Field at 8 a.m. Late registration is from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. Please arrive no later than 7:45 a.m. to sign in. Pre-Race brief will begin at 7:50 a.m.


Torchlight Tattoo-Independence Day Celebration

Date: Saturday, July 2, 2016

Time: 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m; Tattoo begins at 9:00 p.m.

Location: Hilton Field, Fort Jackson Army Base – Gate 4, Columbia , SC 29207

Cost: Free

Details: The public is invited to attend the annual Torchlight Tattoo and Fireworks display on Hilton Field. Cannon salute to each state and territory, music by the 282nd Army “Victory” Band, and fireworks. The field opens at 4 pm and the Tattoo begins at 9 pm. Lawn chairs and blankets welcome, but bleacher, grandstand seating available. No pets, coolers, alcohol, or personal fireworks. Food vendors are available at 5 pm.

In order to celebrate the Fort Jackson Centennial, this event will offer military discounts or special recognition for the role Fort Jackson plays in our community. Join the Columbia Chamber and Fort Jackson for a year-long celebration to commemorate 100 years of partnerships between the Fort and the Midlands.

Details: Independence Day Celebration featuring Grammy Award winning artist Mya. Gates open at 4 p.m., concert opens with The Root Doctors at 7 p.m. Fireworks at dark. Food and beverage concessions will be available for purchase. No coolers. No Pets. No items prohibited by post security. Chairs & blankets may be brought in for seating. Open to public.

Blowfish Baseball & Fireworks Show

Lexington County Peach Festival

Date: Monday, July 4, 2016

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m

Location: Gilbert Community Park, Rikard Circle, Gilbert , SC 29054

Cost: Free, but parking locations may charge $4. Arts and crafts, children’s rides, and great foods will be available for varying fees.

Details: As the Lexington County Peach Festival celebrates its 58th year on July 4th, the Festival offers a full day of fun with the celebration of America’s birthday. Arts and crafts, children’s rides, and great foods will be available for varying fees. A parade, three stages of entertainment, an antique tractor and farm equipment display, a car show, a Revolutionary War Re-enactment, and a fireworks show will be available without charge. The Revolutionary War Re-enactment will host cannon firings at specific times of the day as well as a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon.

Enjoy the activities, the shade, and the BBQ, hot dogs, hamburgers, and peach cobbler. BBQ plate lunches will be available in the park beginning at 11:00 a.m. Other food items available are BBQ pork and chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, peach ice cream, peach cobbler, peach slush, peach parfaits, peach zip, peach berry split, peach sundaes, peach tea, peach delights, fresh peaches, soft drinks, bottled water, and iced tea. Plate lunches and cobbler are only available during the lunch hours.

A Rockin’ Red, White & Blue Celebration

Cost: Free

Details: The Town of Blythewood will host “A Rockin’ Red, White & Blue Celebration.” New this year is WWE wrestling from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., and the D.B. Bryant Band is back on stage at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks will start at 9:00 p.m.! Local food vendors will be on hand with plenty of picnic food. Bring your lawn chairs (no coolers please) and your family for a fun-filled night!


Newberry

Harper Street Bike Parade

Date: Monday, July 4, 2016

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Corner of Harper and Hunt Streets, Newberry, SC 29108

Cost: Free

Details: Get your gear, decorate your bike, stroller, wagon, etc. To be in the parade, meet at the corner of Harper and Hunt between 9-9:20 a.m. To watch the parade, park yourself anywhere along Harper Street. The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments will be available on the lawn of 1725 Harper. If anyone wants to bring food items, simply drop them off at that address by 9:00 a.m.
