5 Favorite Halloween Books for Kids

5 Favorite Halloween Books for Kids | Columbia SC Moms BlogIt’s almost Halloween, and what better way to enjoy the upcoming festive holiday with your little one than with some fun, seasonal books? Not only are seasonal books great for getting into the spirit, but they are also great education tools that teach about other cultures and their traditions. I visited our local library recently and checked out these five Halloween books, which have quickly become family favorites.

Pete the Cat Five Little Pumpkins

Pete the Cat Five Little Pumpkins by James Dean was written for children ages 4-8 … although I am sure younger children would enjoy this book too. I know my three year old did! This book is a good tool for teaching counting and numbers. The pictures are bright and colorful too!

Clifford’s Halloween

Clifford’s Halloween by Norman Bridwell is about America’s biggest, reddest, most loved dog – Clifford! My daughter LOVES Clifford. I enjoyed this book because it starts out taking a look at other holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and April Fools Day. It also discusses different costumes so it can give your child an idea what they want to be for Halloween!

Favorite Halloween Books - CliffordLittle Boo

Little Boo by Stephen Wunderli and Illustrated by Tim Zeltner is about a seed that grows into a pumpkin. This book is super cute and the illustrations are perfect. It gives the reader and listener a great visual to go along with the book. The little pumpkin seed tries to be scary but the wind tells him, “It’s not time for scaring. Be patient. You’ll be scary soon enough.” This book teaches children how a pumpkin seed eventually turns into a big orange jack-o-lantern!

little boo - Halloween bookClick, Clack, Boo!

Click, Clack, Boo! is by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin, the creators of the New York Times bestseller Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type. Join Farmer Brown as he discovers what the, “Crunch, crunch, crunch, creak, creak, creak, tap, tap, tap” noise is! Farmer Brown doesn’t like Halloween but that does not stop the animals from having a party in the barn. Can you figure out who took the candy bowl off of the porch?

Ladybug Girl and the Dress-up Dilemma

Ladybug Girl and the Dress-up Dilemma by David Soman and Jacky Davis is my favorite of the Halloween books we picked out this year. This book is a companion to the New York Times bestseller Ladybug Girl. Lulu, aka Ladybug Girl, dresses up like a ladybug all the time, so when her brother asks her what she is going to be for Halloween she replies, “Ladybug Girl!” He tells her, “You’re always Ladybug Girl. You should be something different on Halloween.” Lulu thinks about being a robot, a silent movie star, an octopus, an alien, and even a wallaby. Will Lulu stay true to herself or will she pick something different?
