5 Things I Can’t Wait to Do When I’m Not Pregnant Anymore

1

I’m not a pleasant pregnant person. Ask anyone. While I adore my kids, the process my body undergoes to produce each of these children is not something I relish. I’m currently on the home stretch of pregnancy number four, and soon enough, all of this will be but a memory.

It amazes me that anyone has healthy babies these days. After all, there are so many rules…

No alcohol.

No deli meat.

No changing the cat litter box.

(I’d like to thank whoever came up with that last one.)

And while I’m grateful that my pregnancies are aided by the wonders of modern medicine, I can’t help but think of my great-grandmother. Pauline Derrick Barr had eleven children in rural Lexington County in the early part of the 20th century. All of her children lived to be adults. And I’m guessing that she didn’t have nearly the amount of prenatal care that I have had!

Regardless, there are so many things that I’m looking forward to whenever I’m no longer pregnant.

1. Margaritas

We have a Ninja blender. Margaritas are my favorite drink. Enough said.

2. Sleeping on My Stomach

I know that it’s bad for me, but it’s a habit, and habits are hard to break. Currently I start out every night lying on my stomach, and after about two minutes it’s all over. I’m enjoying this little bit of time for right now, since I know I won’t be able to do it for much longer.

3. Enjoying a “Real” Medium Rare Steak

My husband has abstained from super yummy medium rare steaks along with me, and the end is almost near. I’ve never tried Ruth’s Chris, but I think after the successful birth of baby #4, a visit is in order. The other food rules, such as heating deli meat and hot dogs until steaming don’t really faze me too much. I’ve never been a huge fan, plus who eats hot dogs cold?

4. Being Able to Paint My Own Toenails

There is something to be said about a good pedicure, but I’m cheap and I have a rather large accumulation of awesome nail polish. I can still paint my toenails for the moment, but it takes me some pretty gymnastic type moves to maneuver my feet into a position that I can paint them.

5. Taking a Zumba Class Without Having a Tough Time With My Belly Bouncing

Heck, I’d love to be able to exercise without feeling completely worn out when I’m done. I know there are mamas who keep up with their exercise regimens during their pregnancies, but I’m not one of those. I’ve never been this fatigued during any of my previous pregnancies.

But this is it. No more complaining. I’ve done this before, and I know that the end result is completely worth all of the sacrifices that I have made in order to have a healthy baby.

What did you miss while you were pregnant?
