Raffle to Benefit Susan G. Komen :: Win a Piece of Pink Ribbon String Art! {Sponsored Post}

I am really lucky. I have a hard-working husband; three beautiful, smart boys; and a roof over our heads. We have food in our bellies and money for a few other non-essential extras. My immediate and extended family are and have always been healthy. I have never really had anyone extremely close to me pass away. Except for the two weeks of mono my first month of high school (which was NOT lucky), I have always been very healthy. (Knock on wood.)

My sweet friend Tanya, 3+ years cancer free!!!

Another way I’m lucky: I have really no experience with breast cancer. I have only one friend who has had to battle breast cancer. Thank GOD she won. I often wonder how I would react if I were to get such horrible, shocking, life-altering news. Then I shake myself out of that thought and say “don’t think about stuff like that, check yourself, listen to my body and live my life the best and happiest ways that I can.”

Though I have no personal experience with breast cancer, I’ve wanted to create some art to benefit this cause for a while. I created my first piece of pink ribbon string art earlier this year. I liked the way it turned out, but then I decided I didn’t like the idea of selling something like that for profit. So I gave it to my friend Tanya, who had been cancer free for 2 years. After that, I knew I wanted to do another pink ribbon piece near October to be given away or auctioned off.

And here it is.

unnamedThe background is splattered paint. I applied the paint with the forceful emotion that I thought I might feel if I were hit with such devastating news. But honestly, I probably didn’t give it half the passion that someone who really has lived through it would have shown.

You can see this piece in person on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Midlands Kids Festival at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center (1101 Lincoln St. in downtown Columbia). Even better, you can enter a raffle for a chance to take this piece home with you. Tickets are $1, and the money collected will be donated to Susan G. Komen on behalf of the Columbia SC Moms Blog.

Please come by on Saturday to check out the Midlands Kids Festival, the Columbia SC Moms Blog booth and my own heART of Sarah booth. Browse my string art for sale (they make great holiday gifts for those hard-to-shop-for loved ones), enter to win this one-of-a-kind piece of art and help the cause of finding a cure.
