Bump Diaries :: Month 3

bump diariesWelcome to Bump Diaries – a new series on Columbia SC Moms Blog! One of our contributors is expecting, and here she will share her journey – the good AND the ugly – with all of you. It is sort of like an homage to the original mommy blog where we provide a peek into the life of a {pregnant} mom.

Hello, there my friends! Happy New Year! It’s Ashleigh! Surprise! I am the mystery Bump Diary blogger! I am so excited to reveal with you not only my identity, but the details of my gender reveal.

The first week of December I went in for my normal monthly visit to the Midwife and was told that I would have to wait until after the New Year for an anatomy scan. I was crushed. I had my heart set on finding out the of gender of the baby before Christmas and then revealing to our family on Christmas Day. I cried. I complained. I got angry. And then I had a girls night out with my friends and they convinced me to call WeeSee Imaging and make an appointment for a 2D gender scan.

I cannot say enough great things about WeeSee. The office is conveniently located off Two Notch across from Sandhills. The technician was so sweet and spent so much time on my scan. I told her I wanted the gender to be a surprise until my Tacky Sweater party later that night so she carefully did my scan and told me to close my eyes whenever she scanned over the genitals. It was fun to see the baby and then quickly pull my sweater cowl over my eyes when the technician yelled “Close!” My sister came with me and immediately burst into tears when the baby first appeared on screen (proud Auntie right there).

Our holiday card!

I brought two ornaments with me to the scan, one pink, one blue, to be wrapped up depending on what gender the baby was. I have to say the hours between my 3 p.m. scan and my party were pretty torturous. I don’t know how you ladies have the scan and reveals on different days! Major props to those of you who decided on Team Greenfor the entire pregnancy!

The reveal itself could not have been more fun. Surrounded by our friends, we waited until the last gift of a White Elephant exchange was opened and stolen before announcing there was one final gift. The face on my husband when he saw the blue ornament was pretty epic.

We surprised our families on Christmas by wrapping a Baby Boy balloon in a big box. Their reactions were just as great.

Quick rundown of my second trimester symptoms:

  • Cravings: Chocolate chip cookie ice cream, french fries, Indian food
  • Symptoms: Exhaustion, constipation (yeah, this one is new and HORRIBLE)

I am starting to get over the nausea which is nice, but that big burst of energy is not here yet. Here’s to hoping it comes soon!

Now that we know we are expecting a boy I would love to hear your advice on preparing for a son!
