On December 4, Columbia SC Moms Blog joined Columbia Children’s Theatre for a special opening night event of the holiday favorite Jingle Arrgh the Way, A Pirate Christmas Adventure. The event quickly created a buzz in the community and tickets sold out with 150 people in attendance. Families of all ages from Columbia, Lexington and the surrounding areas came together for a special evening of Christmas fun and pirate mystery, along with festive food, exciting entertainment, giveaways from local favorites and one-of-a-kind preshow activities! It was truly a night to remember!

Pirate Scavenger Hunt

The evening began with a pirate holiday scavenger hunt. Guests received their maps and quickly made their way throughout the theater in search of special items. Once complete, each person was rewarded with a special surprise of their choice straight out of Blackbeard’s treasure chest!

Facepainting

Bedazzled Unicorn Designs, one of Columbia’s newest facepainters on the scene, is full of talent and created custom designs from a wide selection of holiday, pirate and every day favorites. Children waited patiently and squealed with delight over the finished product!

Crafts

Once inspired by Bedazzled Unicorn Designs’ work, children headed over to the craft table where they had the opportunity to choose from eight different Christmas inspired crafts, giving Picasso a run for his money!

Photo Booth Fun

Then the crowd made their way to a fun photo booth area full of props to compliment the spirit of the evening. Families and friends striked their best pose as Photography by Angel Kinard snapped away. She has the amazing ability to capture the perfect candid shots, as well as give direction to ensure everyone looks their best. She flawlessly managed this area while also taking photos of the entire evening. Talk about talent!

Pirate’s Fishing Hole

Guests finished up the preshow activities at a pirate’s fishing hole where they were able to cast their reel into the icy waters. Some were lucky to wrangle in a prize on their first attempt while others took a few tries before finding success. Regardless, everyone was rewarded with a bag full of holiday and pirate goodies.

Smoothie Bar

In the true spirit of the theme of the play, Coco Yoga, one of Columbia’s hottest new yoga and smoothie bars for both kids and adults, was on hand making a special edition smoothie for the night — PeppARRRmint! Made from only the freshest and natural ingredients, these delicious drinks are not only good, but good for you! It was not uncommon to see folks coming back for seconds!

Appetizer Favorites

Guests dined on endless trays of chicken tenders from PDQ, one of Columbia’s newest and favorite options for fresh, hand-breaded chicken and homemade dressings (five to be exact!). It was hard to decide whether traditional flavors like honey mustard and ranch were the top picks, or the more one-of-a-kind sauces like creamy garlic or sweet sriracha were the most popular. Chick-fil-A at Saluda Pointe also provided their ever-popular nuggets trays that were definitely a crowd pleaser as well.

Sweets Galore

Candy apples, cake pops, chocolates … oh my! There were no shortage of delicious treats! Nita Sweets provided custom cake pops in both pirate and Christmas fashion! With flavors like Red Velvet and Blue Hawaiian, it was hard to choose just one favorite! These were definitely a dessert both parents and children equally enjoyed.

We also had the very talented Ty-Fabulous Creations who brought an enormous selection of festive candy apples (check out the reindeer and Santa below – amazing!), chocolates, chocolate covered pretzel sticks and oreos, plus marshmallow treats and more! They looked too good to eat (but trust us, we dug in anyway and it was sooooo good!).

Costume Contest

Once tummies were full, guests grabbed a bag of popcorn found their seats. The best part of the Children’s Theatre is it is completely kid-friendly. In fact, colored mats adorn the front seating area encouraging little ones to sit with one another to enjoy the show up close. As everyone settled in, the costume contest took place. The kids marveled at the opportunity to get on stage and show off, and the crowd cheered for each and every participant. And let me tell you, there were some great costumes! Choosing a winner was really difficult!

The Show

Finally, after much anticipation, the show started. Known as the premiere theatre for families and young audiences, the Columbia Children’s Theatre proved their reputation once again! The performance from some of the Midland’s best actors was spot on, and the excitement of the crowd could be felt as the show took place both on and off stage! And the best part was, it was a production parents enjoyed as well!

As the show wrapped up, children could be heard saying….

This was the best night of my life!

My favorite part was … EVERYTHING!

I don’t want to leave!

Meet the Cast

The good news was, guests didn’t have to leave right away! The cast came out, including Santa himself, and spent one-on-one time with the kids, signing autographs and taking pictures.
