fathers day gift ideas for the new dad

Father’s Day is right around the corner — this Sunday, June 21 — and I for one want to get something super special for my husband. The poor guy had emergency back surgery two weeks after our son was born and deserves to have an entire day devoted to him, even if he is still home bound 🙁 . I want to celebrate the fact that we have a new baby at home and find something that either makes his life a little easier or makes it a little more fun. So here is a list of gifts for the new (or seasoned) Dad in your life that he is sure to love!

    Picture Perfect

For most people, the iPhone has taken the place of a traditional point and shoot camera. Get those pictures out of Dad’s gallery and onto your walls with an iPhone Photo Cube Printer ($160).

    Just Like Dad

Mommy and me outfits might not be your thing, but these cheeky options for Dad and baby will certainly be a hit with the big guy. Team Incredible by Phunnie Wunsies ($44.99) for the Dad and all the kids, or Pizza Dad by Xenotees ($39) for just your fella and his new little one.

    DIY Daddy

Does your hubby have grandiose ideas of building a tree house for the new tot? Give him the blueprint to turn his DIY dream into reality with HGTV host Todd Davis’ Handy Dad ($20), a collection of 25 kid-approved projects. New dads can prep for future projects with three levels of time commitments: easy projects (lava lamp), afternoon projects (tire swing), or weekend projects (tree house).

    Beer Me

I have heard that it is pretty hard to open a beer when you’re holding a baby (wink, wink). Let Daddy enjoy a drink or two with ease with Kebo’s one-handed bottle opener ($28).

    Man Bag

Your stud muffin will gladly schlep diapers and wipes around in the non-diaper bag looking diaper bag from Diaper Dude ($110). Many options can be used as a backpack or messenger bag and features convenient stroller straps.

    Binge Worthy TV

In the early days of babydom, you might find that a schedule of any kind is out of the question. This includes your regular TV programming. Give the gift of anytime viewing by investing in Hulu Plus ($7.99/month), Netflix ($7.99/month), Apple TV ($69), or Roku (from $49.99).

    Grill Master

Chances are you and hubby have been a little too preoccupied with a newborn to do much home cooking. Treat your man, and yourself, to some delicious steaks or burgers from Omaha Steaks. The Dad’s Day Dinner ($69.99) combo includes 2 (24 oz.) T-Bone Steaks, a 16 oz. pkg. Omaha Steakhouse® Fries, 4 (4 oz.) Caramel Apple Tartlets and 1 (1 oz. jar) Steak Seasoning.

    Get Out and About

Are you and Dad suffering from a little cabin fever? Get out and explore the city together with your baby. Take advantage of some great membership opportunities at Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens and the SC State Museum. Bonus: you can take advantage of the membership during the week when Dad is working!
