New Year, Same Me

0

Oh, New Year. The time to change yourself for the better and turn over a new leaf. Time to make those resolutions and actually follow through with them this year.

I do it every year. I tell myself I’ll workout more, stress out less, and give up my bad habits. I’ll be a better friend, get to work on time, and be a better me.

You know what, though? This year I’m doing something different.

New year, same me.

That’s right. I’m making a resolution to make no resolutions. Not that I don’t need improvements, but I’m going to embrace my imperfections and claim they give me character and charm. I put a lot of pressure on myself to be the perfect wife, mom, employee, etc., so I’m saying no to additional pressure and relishing in my snack-food eating self awareness.

Here are my New Year’s Non-Resolutions, the things I’m going to keep doing in the New Year that I already do now … and I hope you’ll share yours as well.

  1. I will continue eating unhealthy food. Maybe I’ll control my portions a bit better, but I vow to never eliminate pizza or sweets from my diet. There must be some pleasures in life.
  2. I will continue being terrible at SnapChat. I will continue posting random awkward selfies and baby pictures and not seek out any more followers than the three I currently have.
  3. I will keep my same workout schedule. I seriously workout hard enough, and I’m pretty happy with my routine. I’m not going to change it a bit.
  4. I will not give up wine or drink less coffee. Just no.
  5. I will continue stressing out unnecessarily over things that probably aren’t that important. It’s just my nature, and honestly, I think a little stress makes me a more productive human, yes?
  6. I will not find new activities to enjoy. I’m happy with my current activities schedule, which consists of loving my job and chasing my baby. And snacking. And coffee.
  7. I will not be more extroverted. I have struck just the right balance of extroverting and introverting. I’m a pro. Not changing it.

So here’s to another great year of just being me. Are you committing to any non-resolutions?

Sarah grew up in Lancaster, SC but has called Columbia home for nearly 10 years since her undergrad days at Presbyterian College. Columbia holds a special place in her heart, as it’s where she got her first “grown up” job, obtained her Masters of Library and Information Science degree from USC, and met her husband, Todd. She became a mother for the first time three years ago to Todd’s two sweet daughters, and loves watching them grow into unique and interesting young ladies (12 & 14) who inspire her daily. She is also experiencing life with an infant for the first time with their newest family member, a silly, happy 6-month-old baby boy. Sarah is a full time children’s librarian, and loves that her passion and her career have aligned to form dreamy days of sharing her love of literacy and learning with children and families. Sarah enjoys practicing her cake decorating skills, reading, brunch, ridiculously long showers (a luxury now with an infant), working out, good coffee and perfecting the art of crockpot cooking.
