Regal Cinemas $1 Summer Movie Express | Columbia SC Moms BlogIf you are a family on a budget, it’s hard to pack up the kids and go to the movies. For a family of four, it’s at least $40 to just get into the theater – and that is if you are able to get the kids by the snack stand without them having a complete meltdown. If you get sucked in by the smell of the buttery popcorn and the sound of a slurping slushie, your wallet takes a hit for at least $60. It’s a significant amount of money to shell out for two hours of entertainment.

But, family summer savings is on the way! Regal theaters has their $1 summer movie lineup and it’s bound to be entertaining for the kids, a guaranteed way to beat the heat and friendly to your budget. What more could you ask for?

Regal’s Summer Movie Express begins June 6 at our local movie theaters (Columbia Cinema 7, Columbiana Grande Stadium 14, and Sandhill Stadium 16). Both movies are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and begin at 10 a.m. and are rated either G or PG. Many summer camps go to the movies on these days so it is probably wise to get their early or buy your tickets ahead of time because seating is first come, first served.

The movie lineup is sure to tickle the funny bone of even the youngest movie-goers:

Week 1: Kung Fu Panda 3 and Ice Age: Collision Course
Week 2: Trolls and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
Week 3: Monster Trucks and Penguins of Madagascar
Week 4: RIO 2 and The Boxtrolls
Week 5: The Secret Life of Pets and Sing
Week 6: Kubo and the Two Strings and Ratchet and Ratchet and Clank
Week 7: The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water and The Adventures of TinTin
Week 8: Happy Feet 2 and Cats & Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore
Week 9: Storks and The LEGO Batman Movie

So, mark those calendars and feel free to splurge on popcorn, milk duds and a slushie because for $1, you can’t miss these movies.

She scored the spot, but not the actor. With a chronic case of Wanderlust, she can be found day-tripping throughout the Carolinas and planning excursions to visit family across the US. She could be a contestant on "World's Worst Cook" as she has ruined instant pudding not once...but twice.
