Family-Fun Day Trip :: Richardson’s Lake Water Park and Outdoor Recreation Area

Family-Fun Day Trip - Richardson's Lake Water Park and Outdoor Recreation Area - Columbia SC Moms BlogOn a scorching hot Tuesday last July, my kids and I decided to head out of town and take a day trip to Richardson’s Lake Water Park and Outdoor Recreation Area. We had a blast! Located in Warrenville right near Aiken, it’s about an hour’s drive – perfect for a quick day trip!

One of my friends and her son met me at my house and we left Lexington with a minivan packed full of kids, floats, towels, and sunscreen. Richardson’s Lake was super easy to find, thanks to Google Maps! Make sure you put the address in your GPS because once you exit off of Interstate 20 you will travel through rural towns and back roads until you arrive. We arrived thirty minutes after they opened, and it wasn’t crowded at all.

What to Expect

They have two diving boards, a big slide, a dock for sunbathing, and two kiddie slides. My 15-month-old wore her floatation device the entire time we were at the lake, and she climbed the stairs and went down the kiddie slides. She had the best time! My big kids and I went down the tall slide. I was so nervous when I finally climbed to the top because it is really high up but it was so much fun!

They do have umbrellas, chairs, and floats for rent (or you can bring your own). They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and are limited, so if you want to take advantage, do get there earlier in the day.

Additional Features I Loved

  • The facility (including the bathrooms) was clean, which is always a huge plus.
  • The staff was friendly and helped make our overall experience more enjoyable.
  • The water was clear (no wondering what’s happening below the surface).

Make Mealtime Fun!

You can also bring a cooler, and eat a picnic lunch with your family at one of the picnic tables on-site (my kids love doing this). You’ll have to leave the cooler in your car though because coolers are not allowed inside the facilities. There is also a snack bar where you can purchase hot dogs or pizza. Don’t forget to bring cash!

Lasting Memories for Kids (and Parents) of All Ages!

I’m not sure if my kids or I had the most fun. They still remind me of the awesome time they had. It was nice spending a day with all four of them having fun together. My kids told me it was their best summer memory so far. We will definitely go back to Richardson’s Lake Water Park and Outdoor Recreation Area this summer!

The price for admission is $9 for adults and children 13 and up, $7 for military, seniors, and kids 3-12, and it’s free for children 2 and under. Or you can purchase season passes for Address: 919 Richardsons Lake Rd, Warrenville, SC 29851.

Have you been to Richardson’s Lake? What do you love most about it?
