Snip-its, one of the country’s fastest-growing chains of children’s hair salons is opening a new location in the Shoppes at Woodhill, at Garners Ferry and Woodhill, on May 1, 2015. Owned by local mom, Jill Raedels, Snip-its Columbia will offer haircuts and styles; spa services, including mini facials, manicures and pedicures; children’s entertainment; prizes; kid-friendly hair care products; accessories; specialty toys; and more. This new location joins stores currently in Lexington, as well as Greenville and Charlotte, as part of the franchise.

A Cut Above the Rest

With life-size characters, music and games, Snip-its has turned what was once a tedious chore into an amazing adventure, filled with fun, games and excitement. Upon entering the salon, parents and children step into a magical cartoon world of adventure characterized by floor-to-ceiling cartoon murals and vibrant splashy colors. In the waiting area, they can enjoy the Snip-its show, featuring a whimsical cast of cartoon characters; play with toys; or browse the retail space filled with a selection of natural hair care products, specialty toys and gifts, and hair and fashion accessories. Each cutting station includes a special parent chair, and an entertainment station featuring computer games and activities for the little ones. Upon completion of the haircut, children insert a lock of hair into the “Snip-its Magic Box” for a prize. Snip-its Columbia will also offer a “baby’s first haircut” package, which includes a special keepsake for that first lock of hair, a first haircut certificate, and a commemorative photo and holder.

My Personal Experience

My son has received several haircuts from Snip-its, including the “baby’s first haircut” package. The staff is skilled in working with children of all ages (including my squirmy 10 month old at the time). They are patient, take their time, and helped make the experience fun for both me and my child. The atmosphere of the store is geared towards kids and my child always enjoys the bright colors, characters and “special toy” at the end of his haircut.

Grand Opening Party for Kids

A grand opening party will take place on Saturday, May 2 at the new location. Face painting with Sarah Dippity, balloon animals with Balloonopolis, arts and crafts, and other special activities and treats will be provided. As part of its grand opening, Snip-its Columbia will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to the South Carolina Autism Society (SCAS). The money raised will help SCAS support families and children with autism in the area through its programs and services. This is the second time Jill Raedels, Snip-its franchise salon owner, and SCAS has partnered in fundraising.

“As a community partner, we are excited to donate a portion of our grand opening proceeds to the South Carolina Autism Society,” said Raedels. “We look forward to continuing our lasting partnership with this critical organization.”

National Partnership with Autism Speaks

The Snip-its Corporation partnered with the national Autism Speaks organization to create a haircutting guide for stylists and parents of children with autism. All of Snip-its’ stylists are specially trained to meet the needs of children with autism and other special needs. In addition to donating 20 percent of its grand opening profits to SCAS, Snip-its Columbia will allow haircut appointments to be made for children with autism and other special needs on an ongoing basis. (Appointments generally not accepted.)

“Snip-its is about so much more than getting your haircut,” said owner Jill Raedels. “It’s about creating memorable experiences that will last a lifetime for these kids. We are excited to introduce such a unique concept to this community.”

First launched in 1995 by founder Joanna Meiseles, Snip-its has since been revolutionizing the hair care industry by creating a branded entertainment concept designed to untangle the hair care challenges of children. Currently, Snip-its has approximately 66 locations in 26 U.S. states. The Columbia salon will be the fourth salon for Raedels, and one of three in South Carolina in this franchise.
