Reading Rumpus

Share songs and stories with babies from birth to age 3.

Participate in board games and encourage cooperation, problem solving and critical thinking.

Twilight in the Garden: featuring A Bug’s Life

The big screen returns to Riverbanks on select Friday nights this summer. Explore Waterfall Junction then enjoy a family-friendly movie beginning at dusk (Waterfall Junction will open at 6:00pm and close just prior to the start of the movie). Food and beverages also will be available for purchase. More information will be posted closer-to-date. COST: $3 Riverbanks members / $5 general public.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Kids in Architecture

Discover the beauty of design and solve problems with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Greater Columbia Section. Teams work to design and construct a Rube Goldberg machine. Explore the links between art, engineering and design and get an introduction to basic architecture.Space is limited, please register. Age Group(s): 9-12, Programs for School Age Children

Southeastern Toy Soldier Show

Exquisitely detailed military miniature figures or the little plastic G.I. Joes from your childhood, they’re all here at the Southeastern Toy Soldier Show. See, buy, or trade toy soldiers or other military miniatures from various periods of history and enjoy special museum programs presented during the day. Toy Soldier Show activities are free with museum general admission.

Solar Science

Get ready for the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse with Solar Science Saturdays at the State Museum, presented by SCE&G! Activities for Sat., Aug. 12 include:

  • Hovercraft Rides
  • Rocket Launching (weather permitting)
  • Creating Pinhole Projectors
  • Angular Momentum experience

Solar Science Saturdays are free with museum general admission or membership.

Goodnight Lab: A Scientific Parody Storytime

While poking fun at the clutter and chaos of lab life, this sweet parody of the beloved Goodnight Moon gives scientists of all ages everything they need to say goodnight and rest before returning to the research world in the morning. Activities to follow.

Little Red Riding Hood

Big Bad Wolf can’t get any respect. He’s the laughing stock of the forest. He can’t even get the Three Little Pigs to answer the door. Just when he’s at an all time low, a little girl in a red hood happens by and he sees an opportunity! Will Big Bad live up to his name? Or will Little Red be able to outsmart him and make it safely to her Grandma? With a variety of puppetry techniques and plenty of humor, Little Red Riding Hood is an irreverent take on the classic fairy tale.
