Sensory Sensations Open Play

Opportunities to engage the senses and fine motor skills through open play! Program geared for young learners and those with other sensory challenges. Caregivers, please plan to assist your child in safely exploring the materials and activities.

Toddlertime

Storytime is a fun way to introduce preschoolers to literature. It includes books, storytelling, poetry and songs. For more information, call 785-3519. (ages 2 – 5 years)

We’re hosting a free event for children and their families to come hang out. Enjoy a movie, popcorn, drinks, snow cones, and bounce houses! Movie is Inside Out.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Soda City Comic Convention 2017

Back and better for year three, Soda City Comic Con is the premiere pop culture event in South Carolina, bringing together the best in comics, toys, cosplay, gaming and artists that Columbia has ever seen! This two-day event is being held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, which is located in the heart of the Vista. The Vista features some of the best hotels, restaurants and other attractions that Columbia has to offer. We’re offering multiple admission options this year: 2-Day passes for $20, which include a commerative con badge with exclusive Soda City Comic Con art! Single day passes for Saturday are only $15 and Sunday passes are only $10. Children between 6 and 12 can experience all the fun for only $5 and children 5 and younger are FREE! FAQs Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? While there are no age requirements, per SC Law, children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Parking is available on a first come, first serve basis in the city-owned garage across the street from the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? Feel free to email us at [email protected] if you have any questions. Is my registration/ticket transferrable? Yes, just please email us in advance so we can make note of the transfer. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Yes, please bring your ticket and photo ID to the event. Solar Science

Get ready for the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse with Solar Science Saturdays at the State Museum, presented by SCE&G! Activities include:

  • Hovercraft Rides
  • Rocket Launching (weather permitting)
  • Creating Pinhole Projectors
  • Angular Momentum experience

Saturday activities during Pre-Eclipse Weekend at the State Museum on Sat., Aug. 19 will be included with ticket purchase.

A class of students gives tips and tricks for getting a teacher ready — for the first day of school and all the events and milestones that will follow. 2017 Wells Fargo Main Street Latin Festival

Endorsed by the City of Columbia, the purpose of the Main Street Latin Festival is to showcase the culture and vitality of Columbia’s Latin community. This is done by bringing together diverse groups of people to celebrate and share the Latin culture through its foods, arts, dances and music in a fun, family-oriented environment.

Year after year, thousands of people fill Main Street in beautiful downtown Columbia, SC. The streets are filled with the sounds of salsa, merengue, reggaeton and grupero music, folkloric dancers and Latin foods.

This is an event you won’t want to miss! A portion of this year’s proceeds benefit Latino Communications.  Admission to the Main Street Latin Festival is FREE! Food, beverage, and merchandise are available for purchase throughout the event to support Columbia’s Latin community.

Little Red Riding Hood

Big Bad Wolf can’t get any respect. He’s the laughing stock of the forest. He can’t even get the Three Little Pigs to answer the door. Just when he’s at an all time low, a little girl in a red hood happens by and he sees an opportunity! Will Big Bad live up to his name? Or will Little Red be able to outsmart him and make it safely to her Grandma? With a variety of puppetry techniques and plenty of humor, Little Red Riding Hood is an irreverent take on the classic fairy tale.
