Friday, December 18

Snowville

Children can climb Mount EdVerest, explore an ice cave, and even tube down Sled Hill, a 25 ft. long slippery slope sure to give thrills to all. Along the way, children will learn about the science behind the snow in a fun and exciting environment. Your ticket to Snowville is free with museum admission. Children and Adults: $11.50; Seniors (62+): $10.50; Military (with ID): $10.50; Children under two: Free

Family Gardening

Join us as we grow our garden at Sandhills. Come ready to listen to a story, visit our new garden, and get your hands dirty. All ages welcome.

Simple art fun for the very young. Dress for a mess!

Main Street Ice

Grab your family and friends, and head down to Boyd Plaza for Main Street ICE — The City of Columbia’s outdoor ice skating rink! The fee to skate is $10 for adults, $8 for children (age 12 and under) and $8 for active duty military and seniors (55+). The fee includes skate rentals. Special opening day and weekday rates.

Time: 1 – 10 p.m.

Lights Before Christmas

Experience Columbia’s longest running holiday tradition—the 28th annual Lights Before Christmas at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. The Zoo will light up each evening with more than one million twinkling lights and countless animated images representing some of Riverbanks’ most loveable residents. Guests can roast marshmallows at the jingle bell bonfire, visit with Santa and enjoy the festive sounds of the Music in Motion lights spectacular. Riverbanks is also the only place in town where it snows every night!

The Lights of Cayce

Visitors can take a ride through the Cayce City Hall complex and enjoy the magic of thousands of twinkling lights, dazzling holiday displays, and music of the season.

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Cayce City Hall, 1800 12th St., Cayce 29033

Holiday Lights on the River

Experience the magic of the Midlands Largest Drive-Through Lights Show! Saluda Shoals Park will come alive in a blaze of more than a million sparkling lights. Holiday Lights on the River features over 400 themed, animated light displays on a two-mile loop of the park! Fun-filled family activities will be offered every night during Holiday Lights on the River at a nominal fee ($1-$10). Visitors can:

•    Ride the Red-Nose Express Hayride to the Wetland
•    Ride the Saluda Shoals Choo-Choo
•    Take a slide on the Winter Wonder Ride
•    Walk along the lighted trail to the Wetland and enjoy a laser light show and the Deck the Doors Holiday door display
•    Make a craft
•    Visit Santa’s Claus’et Gift Shop
•    Roast marshmallows

Time: 6 – 10 p.m.

The Christmas Angel

Celebrating it’s 15th Anniversary, this fresh and exciting Ballet is sure to take your breath away.  Balletomanes and the general public alike are mesmerized by the originality of this magical story as well as the quality and beauty of dance represented by Celestial Stars.  Artistic Director, Gabrielle Celeste, wrote and choreographed “The Christmas Angel”.  It is a story of a princess whose soul is devoured by jealousy and through the pure love of the Christmas Angel, she is forgiven and redeemed. Tickets $12 for adults and $8 for children.

Festivals of Sharing

Families are invited to explore the festivities of Hanukkah, Las Posadas, the Chinese New Year, and many more through hands-on activities, story time, and information tables. In an effort to embrace sharing with others, EdVenture will also be a donation site for Harvest Hope Food Bank throughout the month of December. Festivals of Sharing is free with museum admission. Santa’s Gingerbread Jamboree

Visit with the Snow Princess while you wait your turn to sit with Santa and tell him all of your Christmas wishes. While he’s making his list and checking it twice, we’ll snap a photo with you and the jolly old elf! Santa’s helpers will be on hand to help you decorate a gingerbread cookie or do some holiday crafting that will get your Christmas spirit singing! This special yuletide celebration is FREE with museum admission.

Winter Fest at the SC State Museum

The State Museum is officially kicks-off each holiday season with an annual Winter Fest celebration featuring great shopping, holiday shows and family-friendly events and activities taking place throughout the month of December. Kids games and crafts, holiday planetarium and 4-D theater shows, and holiday shopping are offered daily throughout Winter Fest! Admission: $8.95; seniors $7.95; children 3-12 $6.95; children 2 and younger free.

The Snow Queen

The Snow Queen is the story of Kai and Gerda, two best friends on a real adventure! When Kai comes in contact with a magic shard, he is whisked away to the castle of the Snow Queen. It’s up to Gerda to traver through the lands of Spring and Summer to rescue him….out-foxing a pirate and befriending a reindeer along the way.

Columbia City Ballet – The Nutcracker

Nutcracker, Columbia’s holiday family tradition, has the distinction of being Koger Center’s first Nutcracker production and longest consecutively running annual arts event. Tickets $20 to $45.
