Free Fridays at Riverbanks Zoo

Residents of Richland and Lexington counties will receive free admission to the park every Friday during the months of January and February. Guests will be asked to provide a valid driver’s license, property tax statement or vehicle registration as proof of residency.

Time: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Discovery Day: Extraordinary Elephants

(ages 2–5) Who is that you hear stomping the ground and trumpeting so loud? It must be those extraordinary elephants! These animals are a sight to behold and have so much to share!

COST: $6 for one child (with one adult) per class. Plus admission for general public. Register for Class

Sensory-Friendly Storytime

This storytime is for everyone. It is designed to include children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory-integration issues and other developmental needs. If your child experiences difficulty focusing in one of our other storytimes, this program of stories, songs and sensory-based activities might be just what you are looking for. Preschool Storytime

Tween Extreme: Lego Club

Join the block party — use your imagination, curiosity and problem-solving skills to build different Lego creations. Family on Safari: Animal Valentines

(ages 5–adult) Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating the ones you love! Join us at Riverbanks Zoo as we learn all about the sweet ways animals care for one another. Admission for the park on the day following the event is included in ticket price. Dinner, snack and breakfast are also included. COST: $45 per person. Register for Program

Aerial Silk Workshop

My Gym aerial workshop is a unique chance for kids to learn important skills like concentration, coordination, teamwork and confidence in a fun environment. Your children will learn a variety of circus skills including aerial silks, trapeze, tumbling, balancing & more. 

This class is empowering, fun, non-judgemental and non-competitive. Our number one goal is for your child to thrive by earning a sense of individual success. Aerial Silks and other circus activities require significant strength and flexibility. In addition to skills, the children will go through cardio & fitness exercises that will help in circus silks and other sports. Ages: 5-11 years old

Engineers Week Open House

During Engineers Week, the college hosts a special open house geared toward kindergarten through 12th grade students.

Additional exhibits will be displayed in our 300 Main Street building as well. Please allow at least 2 hours to see all of our exhibits!

The free event features dozens of interactive exhibits that highlight our academic programs and research.

Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Kids Club® Potted Cactus

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event

Tween Extreme: Crochet 101

Get hooked on crochet. We’re getting crafty with some DIY fun. Learn basic techniques and skills in this six-week class. Tween Extreme incorporates young adult literature, crafts, movies, gaming, poetry and books related to tweens — the age group that is considered too old to be labeled a child and too young to be a teenager. Registration required. (grades 4 – 7)

Mighty, Mighty Construction Site Storytime

All of our favorite trucks are back on the construction site – this time with a focus on team-building, friendship and working together! Will they get the big job done? Come and find out at Storytime featuring Mighty, Mighty Construction Site. Coloring and activities to follow.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Join Dorothy on her adventures through Oz. Meet the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion on their way to visit the Wizard. But Look out for the Wicked Witch, she sees everything from her tower in the West! The classic story comes to life; complete with silver slippers, flying monkeys, runaway hot air balloons, and even a trip to Quadling Country (a leg of the journey that is skipped in the movie).
