Free Fridays at Riverbanks Zoo

Residents of Richland and Lexington counties will receive free admission to the park every Friday during the months of January and February. Guests will be asked to provide a valid driver’s license, property tax statement or vehicle registration as proof of residency.

Time: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Puppetpalooza

See your favorite shows performed by the Children’s Room puppets. Age Group(s): Children All Ages, Programs for Young Children, Programs for Families

Family Friday

Columbia Classical Ballet: Oz

Local company presents a ballet version of the classic tale. Tickets $5 – $35.

Mardi Gras Columbia

Mardi Gras Columbia, in its seventh year, includes a 5K race, a parade and live music at City Roots Farm. The parade will roll out at 11 a.m. from City Roots Farm and travel through Rosewood and past Publix. There will be krewes on floats, local marching bands and anyone in costume who wants to participate. Just bring beads to throw. Event is free, but bring money for food vendors if you plan to come hungry.

Time: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Lagniappe 5K begins at 8 a.m.; parade begins at 11 a.m.; music starts at noon.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Time: 10 – 11 a.m.

Kids Club® Funny Bird

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! Storytime

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! In celebration of the beloved author’s birthday on March 2nd, we will host a special Storytime featuring coloring, activities and more. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled Storytime!                  

Time: 11 a.m.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Join Dorothy on her adventures through Oz. Meet the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion on their way to visit the Wizard. But Look out for the Wicked Witch, she sees everything from her tower in the West! The classic story comes to life; complete with silver slippers, flying monkeys, runaway hot air balloons, and even a trip to Quadling Country (a leg of the journey that is skipped in the movie).

Visit the CMA and pay no admission! Engage your mind and enrich your spirit at the Columbia Museum of Art. Free days are offered in appreciation of the City of Columbia and Richland Country for their investments in the CMA and are sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
