Friday, January 16

Free Fridays at the Zoo for Residents of Richland and Lexington Counties

Richland and Lexington county residents are invited to enjoy Free Fridays at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden-only in January and February. The promotion will run Fridays through February 28, 2015. Free Fridays applies to Richland and Lexington county residents only; guests must present a valid driver’s license or property tax statement for proof of residency.

Time: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Shake, Rattle & Read

Move and groove with your child as they learn important early literacy skills. Join us for half an hour of storytelling, music and movement activities, finger plays and more! Free with paid admission or membership. For children 12 months-5 years.

Hands on Art

Simple art fun for the very young. Dress for a mess! Ages 3-5.

Books and Beyond

Come learn about our winged winter visitors.  We will discuss how and why birds migrate and how w can help care for them during the cold winter months.  We will also be making peanut butter bird feeders!  Snacks will be served. Registration is requested.

The fee to skate is $10 for adults, $8 for children (age 12 and under) and $8 for active duty military and seniors (55+). The fee includes skate rentals. The rink is open through January 19.

The Frog Princess

Based on a Russian fairy tale, The Frog Princess is an epic musical full of adventure, suspense, romance, and humor. The show features a wide variety of puppetry styles, including marionettes, shadow puppets, and table top puppets. With music and songs by Molly Ledford (of the band Lunch Money), and featuring the voices of Darrion McCloud, Bonita Peeples, Kevin Bush, and Stefanie Santana, CMT’s newest production is also its most unique!

Monday, January 19

Most Midlands public schools are closed Monday, in commemoration of Martin Luther King Day. EdVenture is open Monday, since it is a federal holiday. Riverbanks Zoo and the South Carolina State Museum are open their regular hours. The Columbia Museum of Art, Richland Library branches and Lexington Library branches are closed.

The City of Columbia invites the public to the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., celebration. There will be performances by A.C. Flora High School, the brotherhood of First Nazareth Baptist Church and Jonathan Cannon, a Dutch Fork High School junior.
