Friday, July 4

Lexington County Peach Festival

The 56th Annual Lexington County Peach Festival will be a day filled with a parade, live entertainment, over 100 Art & Craft Exhibits, an antique car show, a Revolutionary War Re-enactment, a tractor show, children’s rides, and numerous food items specializing in “Peachy” delights. Festivities kick off every year with the parade at 9:30 am and stretch into the night until 10:00 pm when we bring the day to a close with a dazzling display of fireworks. Plate lunches will be served in the park beginning at 11:00 a.m. Available will be Southern Style BBQ Pork and Chicken, sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, and other good food. Peach ice cream, peach cobbler, peach sundaes, peach slush, peach tea, peach almond delights, and fresh peaches will be the specialty. Free, but parking locations may charge $4

Harper Street Bike Parade

This unique Newberry Event gives children a special way to celebrate Independence Day. All children are welcome to ride their bikes in the Harper Street Parade. The parade is scheduled to line up around 9:15am at the corner of Harper and Hunt Streets and will begin at 9:30. Local residents will provide refreshments for the parade participants. At the conclusion of the parade, children will be cooled down by the refreshing spray of a Newberry fire truck. For more information call 803-276-4274. Free.

Discover the Dinosaurs

Discover the Dinosaurs is for the entire family, and especially kids, to explore the mystery of pre-historic life in an environment of learning, discovery, and fun. Discover the Dinosaurs is a unique hands on exhibit that consists of over 40 moving and replica museum quality dinosaurs that gives you the opportunity to actually get close and touch the dinosaurs! Beyond the exhibit, additional fun activities are available for kids of all ages, which make spending the day with the dinosaurs a great experience for the entire family.

Cost: Adults $18.00 (13yrs & older); Children EXHIBIT PLUS $22 (2-12yrs); Children EXHIBIT ONLY $16 (2-12yrs); Seniors: $16.00 (65+); Children 1 and under free. Purchase discount tickets here (available July 4 only).

Freedom Festival and Fireworks Show

Join Village at Sandhill for the mid-states’s premier July 4th celebration with the Freedom Festival and Fireworks show! Free rides and activities begin at 1 p.m. The music starts at 6 p.m. with country music star Ronnie McDowell and continues with the legendary Johnny Lee and The Urban Cowboy Band at 8 p.m.! The top fireworks show in the mid-state gets underway at 9:30 p.m.! Free.

Torchlight Tattoo and Fireworks

The public is invited to attend the annual Torchlight Tattoo and Fireworks display on Hilton Field. Cannon salute to each state and territory, music by the 282nd Army “Victory” Band, and fireworks. Food, drink concessions and activities for the kids will be available at 4:00 pm. Anyone planning to attend the festivities should arrange to arrive early to ensure the best seating and to avoid being turned away at the last minutes. Lawn chairs and blankets welcome, but bleacher, grandstand seating available. No pets, coolers, alcohol, or personal fireworks. Free.

Newberry Fireworks Celebration

The 2014 Fireworks Celebration will take place at Newberry High School on Independence Day. This family friendly event features games for the kids and food for all ages. Children’s activities will start at 6 p.m., a skydiving celebration at 8 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at dusk. All activities are open to the general public. Summer Movie Series at Riverfront Park

Riverfront Park is showing Rio 2 as part of their Summer Movie Series. Before the film starts rolling, there will be face painting, games, surprises and fun for the whole family. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs and coolers. All movies are free and open to the public. For more information, please call Parks and Recreation at 803-545-3100.

Blowfish Baseball & Fireworks Show

Come watch the Blowfish play against the Florence Redwolves! Fireworks show after the game. Tickets $6 – $7.

Star Spangled Symphonic Salute

Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra and Saluda Shoals Park present their annual “Star Spangled Symphonic Salute” program on the evening of July 4th. Commemorating our nation’s founding, this program features a traditional patriotic music for an old-fashioned outdoor celebration in the gorgeous Saluda Shoals Park. Gather up your family and friends along with a blanket and lawn chairs and come join us for an evening of fun games for the kids, delicious food, and plenty of rousing and inspiring patriotic music! The concert begins at 8:00pm, but come early for dinner. Dupre Catering will be on hand with a special menu of what they call Traditional South Carolina Upscale Barbeque as well as other 4th of July favorites including ice cream, banana splits, ice-cold watermelon and sweet South Carolina peaches! In the event of rain, the festivities will be moved indoors to the River Center at Saluda Shoals Park. Concert is free with park admission ($5 for car or mini-van, $7 passenger van w/12+ seats, $11 bus)

EdVenture’s Bank of America “Museums on Us” Weekend

If you are a Bank of America cardholder, enjoy free admission to EdVenture, on the first full weekend of every month! Just present your card at EdVenture’s Welcome Center. Valid only for Bank of America cardholders, regular admission applies to additional guests.

BBQ & Blues at Irmo Community park

The community is invited to enjoy BBQ plates and music from the Fat Back and Groove Band. Enjoy ice cold watermelon and BBQ vendors. Free admission, vendors may charge fee for food.

Puss in Boots

A whimsical retelling of this classic fairy tale, complete with a shape shifting ogre and of course, a pair of spiffy boot. Tickets $5 at the door or $5.75 online.

Lights Camera Action!

Bring the whole family for a special screening of Despicable Me 2. Snacks are provided. Open to children of all ages.

A Rockin’ Red, White & Blue Celebration

The Town of Blythewood will host “A Rockin’ Red, White & Blue Celebration”. The event includes music from D.B. Bryant Band beginning at 6 p.m., along with food vendors and the Blythewood Arts Center’s display of art work and face painting. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. Bring your lawn chair (no coolers please) and your family for a night filled with fun! Free.

Blowfish Baseball: Bark at the Park

Come watch the Blowfish play against the Martinsville Mustangs! Kids bring your ball and glove early this night to play catch on the field pre-game with your favorite Blowfish players. Game concludes with a tribute to the 200th anniversary of our national anthem independence fireworks! Tickets $6 – $7.

Time: Game Pre-game gates open at 5 p.m.; Play catch from 6:15 p.m.- 6:45 p.m.; Game at 7:05 p.m.
