Tween Extreme: Edventure Waves Repeating Sounds

Investigate the world of mechanical and electromagnetic waves. Learn about frequency, wavelength and amplitude. Explore how different materials can cause refraction and reflection of light waves as you construct your own light-painted picture. For more information, call 798-7880, ext. 3. (grades 4 – 7)

Workshop Theatre’s Into the Woods Jr

Join Workshop Theatre as we go Into the Woods with our favorite fairytale characters in a musical journey about wishes and the choices we make. Be careful what you wish for as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical. Into the Woods JR. features all of your favorite characters – Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.

Time: 3 p.m. & 7 p.m.

Kroger Junior Chef

A Kroger Chef will guide your child as they learn to create a tasty food item on their own. Each workshop lasts for approximately 20 minutes and includes activities such as decorating a cupcake or creating your own fruit pizza.

As part of every experience, your child will receive these Kroger Chef Junior items!

  • Apron
  • Chef’s Hat
  • Recipe Card & Box
  • Cooking Utensil
  • Patch

Each child will take home a recipe card that includes step-by-step instructions so that together, you can continue the experience at home with a made-from-scratch recipe! It’s a great way to foster a life-long love of cooking!

Kroger Chef Junior workshops are recommended for children ages 4-10 years old, but all are welcome! Please note, registration via Eventbrite is required.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Cayce Field Days

Join the Cayce-West Columbia (CWC) Junior Chamber at Memorial Park to experience Cayce Field Days, an interactive field day hosted each Saturday in June. The Cayce Field Days provide the community with a free program to keep kids active and social at the start of summer. This event is free to children from preschool to middle school across the Midlands.

Cayce Field Days was created by the Cayce-West Columbia Junior Chamber and the City of Cayce to provide a resource to the community where kids spend each Saturday in June being physically active. Children will be divided into age groups for each activity, play games such as GaGa Ball, Kickball, Soccer, Tennis, Badminton and get crafty at the tie-dye station where children will create their own field day shirt to take home.

Kids Club®

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

Paleopalooza

Join the State Museum for a very special day full of fossils, dinosaurs, natural history and more at Paleopalooza!

Featuring:

  • Meet a real paleontologist and learn about a brand new dinosaur species.
  • Birds of prey (hawks, owls) and flight demonstrations by Winged Ambassadors.
  • Skype with scientists in the jungles of Panama who are studying snakes.
  • Make a “fossil” to take home with you.
  • Excavate and reconstruct a “fossil” just like a real paleontologist.
  • Draw your favorite extinct animal for your chance to win a cool prize.

The Commedia Sleeping Beauty

Summer is here, and that means the Spaghetti and Meatball Players are back for more shenanigans! Join Columbine, Rosetta, Pantalone, Punchin, and Arlequino as they present the tale of Sleeping Beauty like you’ve never seen before. This original adaptation is performed in the traditional style of commedia dell’arte, a largely improvisational style of street theatre originating in 16th century Italy. With lots of physical comedy, audience interaction, jokes, and surprises, this hilarious “fractured fairy tale” will delight children and adults of all ages! Tickets $5.

Little Red Riding Hood

Big Bad Wolf can’t get any respect. He’s the laughing stock of the forest. He can’t even get the Three Little Pigs to answer the door. Just when he’s at an all time low, a little girl in a red hood happens by and he sees an opportunity! Will Big Bad live up to his name? Or will Little Red be able to outsmart him and make it safely to her Grandma? With a variety of puppetry techniques and plenty of humor, Little Red Riding Hood is an irreverent take on the classic fairy tale.

Dollar Sunday | Mann-Simons Site

Every third Sunday of the month, residents of Richland and Lexington counties are invited to tour of one of Historic Columbia’s house museums for just $1 on Dollar Sunday! On Sunday, June 18, visit the new exhibits at the Mann-Simons Site, the home to the same African-American family for nearly 130 years. The house will be open for guests to tour at their own pace, and guides will be available to answer any questions. Tickets can be purchased at the Mann-Simons Site, located at 1403 Richland Street. General admission prices apply for any house tours after the first. Must bring valid ID.
