Discovery Day: Slithering Snakes

Smooth and slinky, snakes are so misunderstood! Why are snakes so important? Slither on over to find out! Ages 2-5. COST: $6 for one child (with one adult) per class. Plus admission for general public. Register for Class

Homeschool Friday: Planning a Capital City

The capital city was chartered on March 22, 1786, before the city even existed. How would you have designed Columbia when it was created?  Through a series of activities, Historic Columbia will examine how Columbia became the first planned state capital in the country, how the city developed during the past three centuries and how state government components were included from the beginning. $5 members; $6 non-members; $8 members & non-members day of event.

Home School Friday

Add EdVenture’s signature programming to your curriculum! On the first Friday of each month, we offer informal, experiential, hands-on education specialized for homeschool students. Come enjoy our programs on-site here in one of Columbia’s biggest and brightest classrooms. Perfect for ages 3-12, this programming gives your student a chance to enjoy EdVenture in a whole new way! Enjoy EdVenture-led special activities on the first Friday of each month from 2:30–3:30pm. Homeschool groups receive a discounted rate; $8 per child with a free admission for one parent/guardian; $5 for each additional parent/guardian.

Tween Extreme: Lego Club

Join the block party — use your imagination, curiosity and problem-solving skills to build different Lego creations. The Lego Club enhances learning with hands-on activities that promote reading and critical-thinking at all ages. Registration required. For more information, call 345-5479. (grades 4 – 6)

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Kids Club® designed by Sprout® Nature Journal

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event

Miss Nelson is Missing

Miss Nelson’s class is the worst behaved in the whole school. Spitballs flying across the room, paper airplanes sailing every which way and uncontrollable children send the gentle, long-suffering teacher, Miss Nelson, over the edge. But the students of Room 207 are in for a surprise when Miss Nelson turns up missing and is replaced by Viola Swamp, a scary substitute teacher who assigns tons of homework and wields her ruler like a sword! In desperation, the students set out to find their beloved Miss Nelson … but will they ever get her back?

Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site Storytime

As the sun sets behind the big construction site, all the hardworking trucks get ready to say goodnight. One by one Crane Truck, Cement Mixer, Dump Truck, Bulldozer and Excavator finish their work and lie down to rest so they’ll be ready for another day of rough and tough construction play! Join us for Storytime featuring Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Join Dorothy on her adventures through Oz. Meet the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion on their way to visit the Wizard. But Look out for the Wicked Witch, she sees everything from her tower in the West! The classic story comes to life; complete with silver slippers, flying monkeys, runaway hot air balloons, and even a trip to Quadling Country (a leg of the journey that is skipped in the movie).

Kiah’s Kitchen Cooks: Storytime

We take story time to the kitchen for kids! We will read “How to Make Apple Pie and See the World” and then make PASSPORTS to see what countries we visited. Then we will make an apple pie themed dish for our snack! Free! Reserve your spot.

Visit the CMA and pay no admission! Engage your mind and enrich your spirit at the Columbia Museum of Art. Free days are offered in appreciation of the City of Columbia and Richland Country for their investments in the CMA and are sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.

    This Sunday, March 5, is the first Sunday of the month making admission to the SC State Museum only $1 per person.
