Veteran’s Day Parade

People from across the state gather in downtown Columbia for the City of Columbia’s Annual Veterans Day Parade, one of the largest Veterans Day parades in the United States.

Time: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Location: Corner of Laurel and Sumter Street downtown Columbia


Printmaking with Foam

Printmaking is an enjoyable art technique to create one of a kind prints but the supplies can be expensive and the tools can be dangerous if not trained properly. However, printmaking in its simplest form can be easy to achieve using everyday items we keep for parties and cookouts. Create and learn how to make fantastic art prints using foam plates, plastic utensils and good old fashion tempera paint! Age Group(s): Children All Ages, Adults, Programs for Families.

Outdoor Family Movie Night

Outdoor Movie Night featuring Cars 3! Join us for this FREE Event! Door Prizes! Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Food Truck are available to purchase your family’s dinner. Movie will be shown inside if it rains. Food Trucks/Concessions open at 5:30, Movie to start at 6:15. Movie shown at the Baseball Field. Food Trucks: San Jose, Casey’s Big Dawg BBQ and Wolf Pizza.

Honk Jr.

Honk! JR. is a heartwarming celebration of being different that is sure to delight audiences of all ages with its sparkling wit, unique charm and memorable score. Witty and hilarious, but also deeply moving, Honk! JR. provides equal amounts of laughter and tears. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be. $10.00 for children 3 years old through adult. Seniors & Active Duty Military $8.00.

Location: Columbia Children’s Theatre, 1st level of Richland Mall, 3400 Forest Drive–the corner of Beltline and Forest Dr., Columbia 29204


Annie Jr.

Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning musical, Annie Jr. features everyone’s favorite redhead. With an equal mix of pizzazz and positivity, little orphan Annie is easy to fall in love with despite her meager start in a 1930s orphanage under the watch of Miss Hannigan. Annie and her mutt, Sandy, are determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago. Ultimately she finds a new family with Daddy Warbucks and Grace Farrell. Annie Jr. is a production of Town’s youth theatre program. Students meet once a week for a ten-week period and then come together for two weeks of full ensemble rehearsals. The result? A fantastic and energetic show which will delight audiences of all ages!

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for youth (17 and under) and seniors ($65+).

Holiday Market & Festival

This FREE family event will feature photos with Santa, food trucks, live performances from the cast of The Pajama Game, arts, crafts, a live broadcast from Fox 102.3 and much, much more!

Military Appreciation Day – Veteran’s Day

EdVenture will be decorated in flags as it recognizes the contributions and sacrifice that military children make alongside their military parents. The museum will offer free admission on this day to guests showing military identification. 

Activities include:

  • Place a pin on a World map where you have lived
  • Make a yellow military support ribbon and show your appreciation for those who have served and serving our country. Aha Factory
  • Write a letter to a soldier and thank them for their service. Main Lobby
  • Make Fizzy Stars in our Bio Lab   
  • Military Appreciation Storytime 
  • Lend your hand print to our own US flag art piece!
  • Enjoy a free bag lunch from the Carousel Café for military dependents 12 and under.

Veteran’s Day at Riverbanks Zoo

All military veterans, who have served or are serving in the United States Armed Forces, will receive free admission to the Zoo and Garden in honor of Veterans Day.

Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Kids Club®

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

A Loud Winter’s Nap Storytime

From the author of the bestselling book Too Many Carrots, this charming picture book features the fun of winter and the heartwarming benefits of friendship. Will Tortoise sleep through another winter, or will his friends convince him to stay awake and experience the frosty fun? Find out at Storytime, with activities to follow.

Snow White

Join seven lovable Dwarfs as they retell this classic tale with a few new surprises. When the jealous Queen’s Magic Mirror proclaims Snow White the fairest one of all, she’ll need the help of the Dwarfs and a friendly bear who is more than he seems.  Field trip groups, ask about our puppet making activity. Participants can create either Snow White, a Dwarf, or a Knight!

Passport to Art: Two-Faced

In honor of Face Value: Artists’ Portraits by Alphonse van Woerkom, we explore the art of portraiture. Collaborate in the studio to create a piece that is half self-portrait and half how your neighbor views you. At 1:00 p.m., tour drawings of famous artists. This drop-in program for families features a new hands-on art project each month. Free.

    Bubbie’s Jewish Extravaganza at Beth Shalom Synagogue this Sun, 11/12 from 11-3. Free admission. Tons of indoor and outdoor seating. Food is ready to take out if you can’t sit and eat at the event. This is the 9th yr of the event. Brisket, corned beef, matzoball soup, apple cake, and more!
