Kid’s Corn Maze

Bring the little ones for our amazing Corn Maze, just the right size for younger kids. Make it a new tradition and capture those memories! Pay $3 for each child to explore the maze and get a pumpkin at the end. Great spots throughout the maze for photo opportunities! Purchase tickets in our Fresh Produce Market. Tickets cannot be purchased online

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Scarecrows in the Garden

Scarecrows have taken over the Robert Mills House & Gardens! This free exhibit features handcrafted scarecrows made by local families, businesses, organizations and classrooms. On a stroll through the gardens this fall, you’ll see dozens of ghoulish, historic and colorful scarecrows. Keep an eye out for “Sneaky Steve,” a mischievous scarecrow hiding somewhere on the grounds in a new location each week. The exhibit is free and open to public during normal Historic Columbia hours, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday and 1 – 5 p.m. Sunday. Vote throughout the month for the “People’s Choice Award” and “Best Class Crow” by visiting the Gift Shop at Robert Mills!

2017 South Carolina State Fair

The South Carolina State Fair is best known for bringing 12 days of exhibits, competitions, food, midway rides and big-name entertainment to Columbia each October. It’s ranked one of the Top 50 fairs in the United States. Early ticket purchases for admissions, concerts and pay one price ride wristbands. Find out about 10 things you don’t want to miss!

Time: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Toddlertime

Storytime is a fun way to introduce preschoolers to literature. It includes books, storytelling, poetry and songs. For more information, call 785-3519. (ages 2 – 5 years)

Oktoberfest Columbia

This festival of German heritage is free and open to the public, and includes activities for the kids, live entertainment, authentic German home-cooked food, and plenty of German beer! Holy Schnitzel…Martin Luther would be proud!

Learn, Connect, Play: Board Games

Participate in board games and encourage cooperation, problem solving and critical thinking. Programs for School Age Children, Programs for Teens, Programs for Adults

Tween Extreme: Lego Club

Join the block party — use your imagination, curiosity and problem-solving skills to build different Lego creations. Columbia Model Train Show

The Columbia Model Train Show has been a tradition for many years. With more running displays this year, and trains that are operable by kids of all ages, this is an event your family won’t want to miss!

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Visit the Museum of OZ on this special Saturday featuring a chance to see, “The Wizard of Oz 4D Experience,” meet characters from the film and more.

Auntie Em’s Fall Harvest Festival

Celebrate Fall with Auntie Em, Dorothy and more at the South Carolina State Museum! Explore the Museum of Oz, enjoy delicious South Carolina barbecue and craft beer, click your heels to live musical performances, meet South Caroline artists and more. Featuring:

  • Saturday in Oz fun, including: showings of The Wizard of Oz 4-D Experience™ and Skies in Oz, a chance to meet the characters, hands-on activities and more.
  • A variety of barbeque made by award-winning South Carolina pit masters.
  • Local craft beer.
  • Live performances by the Capital City Cloggers, Steam Drill, Willie Wells and the Blue Ridge Mountain Grass, West End String Band, Flatland Express and Palmetto Blue.

Auntie Em’s Fall Harvest Festival will take place in front of the museum, as well in the lobby and in areas throughout the museum. Guests are welcome to bring their own chair or blanket to enjoy some of the bands playing outside. All Fall Harvest Festival activities are included with museum general admission or membership, except for 4d and planetarium shows, food, beverages and art purchases.

BrickUniverse Columbia LEGO Fan Expo

Release the builder within at BrickUniverse Columbia, the ultimate LEGO lover’s paradise that will take over the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on October 14 and 15, 2017.

Choose from Saturday or Sunday admission, and experience hands-on LEGO attractions and activities built to inspire, educate, and entertain. After the Fall Storytime

Humpty Dumpty is an avid bird watcher whose favorite place to be is high up on the city wall — that is, until after his famous fall. Now terrified of heights, Humpty can no longer do many of the things he loves most. Will he summon the courage to face his fear? Find out at Storytime, with activities to follow.

Snow White

Join seven lovable Dwarfs as they retell this classic tale with a few new surprises. When the jealous Queen’s Magic Mirror proclaims Snow White the fairest one of all, she’ll need the help of the Dwarfs and a friendly bear who is more than he seems.  Field trip groups, ask about our puppet making activity. Participants can create either Snow White, a Dwarf, or a Knight!
