Sensory-Friendly Storytime

This storytime is for everyone. It is designed to include children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory-integration issues and other developmental needs. If your child experiences difficulty focusing in one of our other storytimes, this program of stories, songs and sensory-based activities might be just what you are looking for. Movers and Shakers

Get ready to move and shake, shake, shake while listening to stories, songs and more! For 2-5 year olds. Movers and Shakers is a great storytime to explore various concepts through movement and activities. Incorporate gross motor movements to work on recall and language development.

Books & Beyond: Giving Thanks

Discover the joy and tradition of giving by creating Thanksgiving centerpieces, cards and other decorations for senior at the Pine Ridge Senior Citizens Center. Books & Beyond is an after school program featuring storytelling, picture books, crafts and other hands-on activities. For more information, call 785-3050. (grades K – 5)

Explore the kernel of history behind popcorn. We like it with salt, butter, caramel and more but did you know that Peruvians were eating the snack thousands of years before? 27th Annual Festival of Trees

Features decorated trees, wreaths, stockings and other items that are up for bid during a weekend-long silent auction. Join hundreds of families to enjoy the holiday cheer as well as wonderful activities and entertainment, including local choirs, dance groups, visits with Santa and area mascots. $2-$5.

Kids Club® Felt Gingerbread Man

Santa Signing Day at the Gift Shop at Robert Mills

To kick-off the holiday season, Historic Columbia will host their annual Santa Signing from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 at The Gift Shop at the Robert Mills House. This free, family-friendly event is the perfect opportunity to get into the holiday spirit, visit with Santa, enjoy holiday activities and begin checking off your shopping list! In addition, guests will have the opportunity to tour the historic basement at that Robert Mills House and see the elves hard at work, gingerbread cookies and goodies baked by Mrs. Claus, and wrapped gifts and hanging stocking by the fireplace. Guests will receive 30% off their entire Gift Shop purchase (some exclusions apply) and light refreshments.

Thanksgiving Storytime

In celebration of Thanksgiving we will feature two special stories, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey! and The Great Thanksgiving Escape. Coloring and activities to follow.

Legends of Ancient Greece

Join Pan, the Protector of the Forest, as he shares three of the most famous stories from Greek Mythology: Pandora’s Box, Orpheus in the Underworld, and Theseus versus the Minotaur. This epic production introduces dozens of mythological characters and stories. It features elaborate shadow puppets and some of our largest marionettes!

TeenScene: Yule Ball

Lights Before Christmas

Bring the kids and the camera and see why Lights Before Christmas has continued as a family tradition for more than 25 years!

  • Nearly one million twinkling lights
  • Countless animated images
  • Nightly visits with Santa (on-site beginning at 6:00pm each night through December 23)
  • Warm memories and holiday cheer around the Jingle Bell Bonfire
  • Hot cocoa, s’mores and other festive foods available for purchase

$11 Adults, $9 Children ages 2–12, and children younger than 2 free. All Riverbanks members receive one free visit with a valid membership. Guest passes will not be accepted.

Time: 5 – 9 p.m.

StoryBook Ball

Enter a world of kings and queens, pirates, princesses and fabled creatures as EdVenture transforms into a magical kingdom of storybook dreams. Children and their grown-ups will enjoy this merry evening filled with storytelling and themed entertainment by magicians, performers and artisans. Rub the genie’s lamp and travel to exotic lands filled with face painting, and special characters from your favorite fables and fairy tales. Step inside and explore Dr. Seuss, Alice in Wonderland, Arabian Nights, Peter Pan, The Royal Court and the Wizard of Oz! Watch as we bring storybooks to life in the Tale Teller’s Theatre, prance with princesses at the royal dance party, or follow the yellow brick road and dine with a collection of curious characters. Take the next coach and don’t be late! Costumes encouraged. Dinner will be served. $20 members • $45 non-members
Tickets include dinner and all Storybook Ball activities. 
 
Join us for the Storybook Ball VIP Pre-party with a $15 ticket upgrade. Holders will enjoy: early entrance at 5 p.m. for pictures with princesses and storybook characters; exclusive VIP 5:45 p.m. dinner time and an autograph book for each child.

Proceeds from Storybook Ball will promote literacy in state through book & school supply distributions and after school programs.

Dollar Sunday | Mann-Simons Site

Residents of Richland and Lexington Counties are invited to come take a tour of one of our historic house museums for just $1! This month, visit the Mann-Simons Site for Dollar Sunday. General admission prices apply for any house tours after the first. Walk-ins welcome! The house will be open for guests to tour at their own pace, and guides will be available to answer any questions. Purchase tickets at the house between 1-4 p.m.
