9 Songs To Add To Your Thanksgiving Playlist

Many of my friends started listening to Christmas music on November 1. The stores were decked to the halls by the end of October, and fall decor was on discount. But before everyone dives too deeply into Christmas cheer, I think it’s important to acknowledge the holiday that is actually happening this month: Thanksgiving.

While others are listening to their Christmas playlists, I’ve compiled a list of 10 songs to help you focus on celebrating Thanksgiving. Although not all of these songs are specifically about turkey or family gatherings, they are about gratitude.

1. Over the River and Through the Wood

I always thought this was a Christmas song, but it actually refers to Thanksgiving Day in the second verse. Even if you can’t see your grandmother this year, it’s a good way to remind you to appreciate time with family.

2. What a Wonderful World

An oldie but a goodie! Louis Armstrong’s song always helps remind me of the beauty of the world around us. He reminds me to focus on small things that I take for granted every day.

3. My Favorite Things

I love this classic from The Sound of Music. It’s amazing how counting your blessings can turn your mood around. Jumping on a bed in your pajamas also helps.

4. Thankful

Sometimes I get so distracted by Josh Groban’s voice that I forget to concentrate on the lyrics. So here’s a glimpse of the words: “Somedays we forget to look around us. Somedays we can’t see the joy that surrounds us. It’s up to us to be the change and even though we all can still do more, there’s so much to be thankful for.”

5. Be Thankful

Sure to brighten your day, this song reminds all of us to keep things in perspective. I love Natalie Cole’s peppy style.

6. Thankful – A Children’s Thanksgiving Song

Sung by members of the One Voice Children’s Choir, this is a great song for kids.

7. All Things Bright and Beautiful

A classic hymn, this song also highlights all of the things we have to be thankful for on this earth. I love this arrangement sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

8. Thank You

This song by India Arie pays tribute to all those who are in the military. It has become one of my favorites this season.

9. Thank You for Being a Friend

I had to finish up with one of the best thank you songs – who doesn’t love the theme from the Golden Girls!

What are your favorite Thanksgiving songs?
