Christmas is just around the corner. That means it’s time to think about what gifts you’ll be giving this holiday season.
I don’t know about you, but every year it seems like I end up spending more and more money on Christmas gifts. I do put a limit on how much I spend per person, but with the prices of toys, clothes, movies, etc. constantly rising, and the fact that I also have numerous birthdays to purchase gifts for between November and December, the holiday season definitely makes a HUGE dent in my bank account.
But, I’ve found something to help me keep a little extra money in my wallet this year. And, it’s fun too!
Homemade Christmas gifts! There are so many easy, beautiful homemade items you can make that make wonderful gifts. Here are five of my favorites.
Mason Jar Goodies
If you have a mason jar, you can make just about anything. Including some delicious goodies! I love using them to put cookie mix in. You just layer all the ingredients for the cookies in the jar, decorate the lid and attach a recipe card. Super easy! Other fun ideas are hot cocoa with marshmallows, jam, seasoning blends, candy, and granola.
No-Sew Microwavable Rice Heating Pad
Heating pads are great for pain and stress relief. And, by making a homemade one, you can add a calming scent to it that will help the recipient relax. All you need to make these are some cute knee socks, twine, 2 cups of white rice, an empty toilet paper roll tube or baking funnel, and 10 drops of essential oil. Add the essential oil to the rice, then place the toilet paper tube or funnel into the sock and pour the rice into the sock through the funnel to fill. Once the sock is full, tie it off with the twine. Done!
Sugar Scrub
I recently went to a friend’s house and she had made some sugar scrub for your hands that was AMAZING! My hands felt so soft after using it. This scrub is super easy to make and you can make so many different scents. It’s perfect for any woman in your life because you can customize the scent for each person. To make a Sugar Scrub all you need is 1 cup of white sugar, 1/2 cup of coconut oil, and 6-10 drops of the essential oil of your choosing. You just mix them all together and put the mixture into a small glass jar. You can even add some food coloring if you like, to give it that little something extra. Decorate the jar if you like and you’re good to go!
Manicure/Pedicure in a Jar
Every year my mom and sister give me nail polish as a stocking stuffer and I love it. Most women love nail polish and painting their nails. So, what better gift than a pedicure or manicure in a jar? Grab that faithful mason jar again (don’t you just love those things?), stuff it with some nail polish, nail files, nail clippers, nail polish remover, cotton balls, a cuticle pusher, and maybe even some hand cream. Then, decorate your jar (perhaps something like THIS) and it’s all set!
Light Up Holiday Jar
If you are a Mod Podge and crafting lover, this one is for you! For this one, you’ll need a mason jar or another type of glass jar (like a pickle jar), ribbon, glitter, Mod Podge, black card stock paper, a battery-operated tea light, and a tiny bit of sand (the sand could be optional). You’ll first need to Google a nativity silhouette (or Christmas tree or other holiday item you like), print it, and then trace it on the black card stock and cut it out. Next, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the silhouette and glue it to the inside of the jar. Then, apply Mod Podge to the outside of the jar and roll the jar in the glitter. After that, cut your ribbon to the length to fit around the edge of the jar lid, apply Mod Podge to the lid and glue the ribbon in place. You can also decorate the top of the lid how you like. I just put glitter on mine. Lastly, put sand and tea light inside the jar and cover with the lid. This jar took me maybe 10 minutes to do. Lots of fun and so pretty!
