The Best Candy Shops in Columbia

0

I love candy. But who doesn’t, really? That sugary sweetness that melts in your mouth and makes you oh so happy. Mmmmm…

Now, it may not be good for the hips but, hey, everything in moderation, right?

Did you know that June is National Candy Month? Yep! To celebrate I thought I’d give you a tour of Columbia’s finest confectioners. Sit back, relax, and be ready to drool!

The Peanut Man

This place is all you could want in a candy store and more! Besides the vast array of candy, which includes a wall of Jelly Beans, you will find flavored popcorn, any kind of bulk candy you could imagine, assorted nuts (some plain/salted and some chocolate covered), Pucker Powder, and even Cotton Candy. And you can’t forget the counter full of chocolate deliciousness where you’ll find M&M bark, giant peanut butter cups, chocolate covered candy flavored pretzels, and a variety of different nut clusters. Peanut Man has something for everyone!

Chocolate Monkey

If you are a candy apple lover, Chocolate Monkey is the place for you. These are no regular candy apples. They are candy apples on steroids! Each apple is smothered in delicious caramel sauce and covered with a variety of toppings. Toppings range from drizzled white and/or dark or milk chocolate to M&M’s, nuts and sprinkles. As if that wasn’t enough, Chocolate Monkey also offers homemade fudge, giant cookies, chocolate covered marshmallows, and a variety of other chocolate deliciousness. Yes, please! You can check them out at one of their two Columbia area locations; Sunset Blvd in Lexington and at the Columbiana Mall on Harbison Blvd.

Bruges Chocolaterie

If you love chocolate (and I don’t just mean a Hershey bar, I mean REALLY GOOD chocolate) you NEED to check out Bruges! Bruges Chocolaterie offers the most decadent and beautiful artisan Belgian chocolates. Each chocolate piece is hand painted and filled with fresh ganache or caramel. There are a variety of unique flavors such as French Lavender, Matcha & Mint, Bananas Foster, Orange & Cardamom and Strawberry Balsamic. Aside from these amazing chocolates, Bruges also offers mouthwatering chocolate bark, chocolate dipped fruit, nuts, and marshmallows. And you can’t forget the tasty French Macarons, with flavors ranging from Chocolate to Red Velvet, to Pistachio. Um, will you excuse me for a moment while I run out to buy some chocolate?

OK, I’m back. Now, where was I?

Mast General

While Mast General isn’t a candy store per se, they do sell some pretty amazing candy. A walk through this store will bolt you back in time. You can browse old-fashioned toys from your childhood (and earlier) as you drool over the old-timey barrels full of bulk candy. Mast General carries old favorites like Rock Candy, Razzles, Button Candy, Pop Rocks, Caramello, Chupa Chups, Gummy rings, Double Lollies, black licorice, Charleston Chew, Sugar Daddy’s and more! It’s a candy lovers dream.
