Bump Diaries :: Month 7

bump diariesWelcome to Bump Diaries – a new series on Columbia SC Moms Blog! One of our contributors is expecting, and here she will share her journey – the good AND the ugly – with all of you. It is sort of like an homage to the original mommy blog where we provide a peek into the life of a {pregnant} mom.

Month 7 . . . I cannot believe how time is flying right now.

The beginning of this pregnancy was so tough I thought I would never get to this point, and now here I am, feeling pretty good and getting more and more excited to meet my little man.

Decorating the Nursery

One of my major goals for this month was to begin working on Baby Boy’s nursery. When I was pregnant with my daughter I had a pretty distinct vision of what I wanted her room to look like. My biggest criteria was nothing too overtly baby. I wanted a room that would grow with her and hopefully wouldn’t have to be repainted or completely changed as she aged out of the whole nursery theme. I opted for a pretty lavender on the walls that popped against her dark furniture. For a theme I went with birds for the bedding and general décor. At three years old, she still loves her room and so do I.

For the boy, well, I couldn’t really come up with anything I loved. The plan was for him to take over our guest room which is painted an olive green below the chair rail and beige above. He would be inheriting his sister’s dark crib and maybe her rocker (if she doesn’t freak out over its removal from her room). I knew that similarly to my daughter’s nursery, I wanted something that didn’t scream Baby.

When people asked me for the theme the only thing that sounded good was woodland animals. However, when I went to look at crib bedding and décor I found most to be too cutesy for my taste. I wanted something a little more masculine. It wasn’t until I was lamenting to a girlfriend my complete lack of ideas that she put together the most perfect theme ever for me.

My son is going to have a Wes Anderson themed bedroom.

For those of you who are not familiar with Anderson by name, he is the Oscar nominated director of The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and The Royal Tenenbaums. His films have a pretty distinct aesthetic and I am completely obsessed! Luckily, I already own some Anderson-esque items that can be re-purposed in the boy’s room so I won’t have to do too much shopping. (Husband, you can thank Jane for saving your wallet.) I am so excited to share with you the final nursery reveal next month!

Showering Baby

One of the best parts of this month was my baby shower thrown by two amazing friends, fellow Columbia SC Moms Blogger Lindsey and our good friend, Zee Zee.

To say Baby Boy and I were showered with gifts is an understatement.

I cannot tell you how extremely blown away I was by the love and generosity of my friends and family. It was such a wonderful afternoon filled with delicious food, hilarious games, and fantastic advice for how to be a mom of two.

Normally guessing how big a pregnant woman's tummy is never a good idea.

I will be forever grateful for the wonderful friendships I have. My sweet boy is already so loved.

Tell me, how did you come up with your nursery theme? Did you have a second baby shower?
