4 Tips for Keeping Dad Healthy this Father’s Day & Beyond

0

You’ve heard the saying, men live longer with wives in their lives. I also like to think that dads live longer with children in their lives. The piggyback rides, chasing toddlers around the house, the sports training with the wild and active teens, and playing hide and seek are just a few ways dads stay fit and active.

There are several chronic health problems men face, and the health and wealth of your awesome man/husband has everything to do with your awesomeness as his wife and mother of his children. In honor of Men’s Health Month and Father’s Day, here are some tips to encourage the man of the family to stay fit and active:

Schedule His Regular Exams and Check-ups

Yes, you read that correctly, you may have to schedule your man’s regular exams and check-ups. Many men will confess they are not good with making appointments or handling business, and prefer the woman in his life to take care of it for him. Make a fun day of it and squeeze in some date time by booking an early appointment and pairing it with lunch afterwards.

Make Healthy Eating a Lifestyle and Family Activity

Healthy eating lowers the risk of obesity, heart disease, and hypertension. Invite the entire family into the kitchen and make it an event. Take turns educating each other on the importance of incorporating more vegetables or healthy items into the diet. Explore healthy alternatives to satisfy a sweet tooth, and put a new healthy twist on traditional fares with themes such as Meatless Monday or Tasteful Tuesday and Watercress Wednesday. If your kids are old enough, have them help out with meal prep, like cutting vegetables and adding them to the dish you are preparing. By doing so, you are instilling healthy eating habits, teaching them how to cook, and showing them a great way your family can spend time together.

Schedule Regular Dental Cleanings

Harmful bacteria can camp out in your gums and on the tongue, which can be damaging to gut health. Good gut health helps reduce brain fog, and allows the body to properly digest food and eliminate waste. Plus, who doesn’t want to continue to take of that smile you fell in love with in the first place? Schedule regular cleanings every six months and keep up good hygiene care to minimize the risk of problems down the line.

Take a Daily Multivitamin

Look for one combined with Vitamin D and Saw Palmetto (which is good for prostate health). Taking vitamins and supplements aid in proper body function and overall health. And while Dad is at that appointment you scheduled, one being his yearly physical, be sure to find out if there are additional vitamins he should be taking for his individual health.

What are some ways you and your children encourage Dad to live a healthier lifestyle?
