When Daddy Gets Involved :: A St. Patrick’s Day Story

0

For the past three years, my boys and I have been making leprechaun traps to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. It is so much fun! We make a trap, come up with a plan to catch the sneaky little bugger, and then wait and see what we find the morning of St. Patrick’s Day. I’m not sure what happens in your house, but in our house, the leprechaun always makes a big mess! But, my boys love the mess. They’re boys, so of course, they do!

This was the first trap we ever made. It was simple but effective. My boys loved it so much that we actually used it two years in a row.

After the leprechaun escaped yet again last year, my boys decided we needed a new trap … something a little more elaborate so we have a better chance of catching him this year. A few weeks ago we had a free Saturday so we got down to it. The boys and I had a lot of fun and were proud of our result.

Enter daddy. When daddy saw all the fun we were having he decided to get in on the action. So he made his own leprechaun trap out of Legos.

What you won't see in the picture below are small yellow Lego pieces he put inside of it to look like gold.

Now, do you think my husband could leave it at that? Nope! He had to go a bit further. He set the trap up on our entertainment center, put toy army men around it (to guard the trap), and left it there. Even though St. Patrick’s Day was still a few weeks away, he decided to have the Leprechaun play tricks already. So for a few nights in a row, after the boys went to bed, he would “destroy” parts of the trap, move the army guys, and make it look like the Leprechaun had been there. The boys loved it, of course, and couldn’t believe the leprechaun had come to play tricks already.

You would think that would have been enough for daddy, but nope. Daddy needed to take it even farther. He began collecting boxes and devising a plan.

Well, my friends, this past week he acted upon that plan and created what he calls the ultimate leprechaun trap. And here it is in all its glory:

As you can see, he may have gotten a *little* carried away. The sheer height of the thing, the army guys guarding the trap, the trees, the hanging gold, the trap door, and let’s not forget the note from the Green Arrow (we may or may not watch a lot of Arrow on Netflix.).

Yeah… nothing is ever simple when daddy gets involved.

How do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?
