Richland Library and Lexington Library hold LOTS of storytimes over the weekend! Click the links to find a time that works for your family.

Friday | May 25, 2018

Discovery Day: Crazy Kangaroo

G’Day, Mate! Hop on over to the Zoo to experience the kangaroo life. COST: $6 for one child (with one adult) per class. Plus admission for general public. (ages 2–5)

Time: 9:45 a.m. & 11 a.m.

Teen Gaming Hour

We’ve got a Wii and XBox and you know how to play it. Join us to enjoy your favorite games. Welcome to bring your own game(s).

Kick It Karate

Kick it Karate is a free specialized karate class for all kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This SC Developmental Disabilities Council program takes place at Capital Karate in Rosewood every Saturday morning (pending holidays and cancellations due to weather).

Qualified and certified karate instructors take time to help those with special needs develop confidence and basic karate moves. There are three age groups:

  • Ages 3-6 class from 9.15-9.45 am
  • Ages 7-12 class from 10-10:30 am
  • Ages 13+ class from 10.45-11.15 am

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Big Kid Yoga

Big Kids (ages 8-12) practice yoga while adults take their own class in the room next to us. Kids enjoy yoga, breathing exercises, games, crafts, & reading time. Register on the Pink Lotus app.

Kids Club®

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

An Elephant & Piggie Biggie! Storytime

Elephant & Piggie are back to celebrate 10 years of friendship in this special collection featuring five classic Elephant & Piggie stories. Join us for Storytime, with activities to follow.

Beauty and the Beast

A vain Prince learns a valuable lesson when he is turned into a hulking Beast for his selfish behavior. It will take a young woman named Beauty to teach him the error of his ways. CMT’s adaptation has  both drama and comedy, and features detailed marionettes and rod puppets.

Time: 11 a.m. & 3 p.m.

Virtual Reality Explorers with IT-oLogy for middle schoolers (ages 11-14)

Come to the library for a (virtual) field trip around the world! From the top of Mt. Everest to the depths of the ocean floor, these sessions led by IT-oLogy allow students to engage in virtual reality exploration with Google Expeditions and the Mattel View-Master VR Viewer. Space is limited and registration is required. This event is made possible by a grant from Best Buy awarded to IT-oLogy.

The Palmetto Concert Band’s most popular concert of the year is free and open to the public.

Military Appreciation Day – Memorial Day

EdVenture will be decorated in flags as it recognizes the contributions and sacrifice that military children make alongside their military parents. The museum will offer free admission on this day to guests showing military identification. 

Activities include:

  • Place a pin or sticker on a World map where you have lived
  • Science of Fireworks in our Bio Lab 
  • Match the uniform pieces with the different branches of the military

Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
