Plan Your Total Eclipse Weekend

Total Eclipse Weekend | Columbia SC Moms BlogUnless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Columbia will be one of the prime viewing spots in the world for a total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21 at precisely 2:41 p.m. It’s projected that over a million people may be flocking to Soda City for a long weekend of super fun activities and special events! With that many tourists descending on our fair city, now is the time to make your plans for where you want to be during this once-in-a-lifetime event! The best place to keep up to date on the dozens of events that will be happening all over Columbia is here, but here are a few of my family-friendly favorites:

1. Lakefront Eclipse Camping at Siesta Cove Marina

Spend your weekend on the shores of Lake Murray swimming, playing, and sleeping under the stars! Perfect for the outdoorsy family looking for a little adventure.

2. Arts and Draughts at the Columbia Museum of Art

Kick off your Total Eclipse Weekend on Friday, August 18 with live music, great art, and local beer!

3. View the Eclipse from the Sheraton Rooftop

Get what might be the best view in town from the rooftop of the Sheraton hotel on Main! Enjoy food, drinks, and take in the eclipse from an incredible vantage point.

4. Check out a Drive-in Movie on Eclipse Eve

On Sunday, August 20, come to the Cayce Motor Speedway for a pop-up drive-in movie experience that will be perfect for the whole family. Only $25 per carload.

5. A Full Weekend of Activities at the South Carolina State Museum

See special eclipse-related exhibits, view unique planetarium shows, and check out the observatory all weekend long, then settle in for some fabulous eclipse viewing on the museum grounds on the big day.

6. Watch the Eclipse from the Beautiful Historic Robert Mills House and Gardens

This event features a gorgeous outdoor setting, live music, kids activities, and more for the whole family.

7. Catch some Fireflies Baseball, and Fireworks too!

Watch a great game on Friday, August 18, and top it off with a firework show.

8. Geocaching!

Looking for a super-unique way to celebrate eclipse weekend? How about a whole-family geocaching adventure! The event kicks off at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, and it’s FREE.

Where will you be taking in the Total Eclipse?
