11 Reasons Why Parenting a 3-Year-Old is just like Taking Care of Your Drunk Best Friend - Columbia SC Moms Blog

We’ve all been there. Out for a night of fun with your best friend, and one of you ends up “over-served.” You do what you can to keep your pal happy, safe, healthy and comfortable. Well, in my mind, this perfectly parallels how it is to take care of my 3-year-old daughter. Let me illustrate…

  1. She tells me she loves me about every 5 minutes.
  2. I help her go to the bathroom.
  3. She repeats the same story, phrase, or sentence over and over and over, and all you can do is repeat your response.
  4. She gets emotional for no reason at all.
  5. She gets angry and tells me she doesn’t want my help — with anything.
  6. She wanders off, and I have to steer her in the right direction.
  7. She doesn’t want to stop what she is doing to “call it a night.”
  8. I help her get a snack and a drink, while having to help or remind her to eat said snack and drink. That she requested. Repeatedly.
  9. I help her put on her pajamas.
  10. I put her to bed.
  11. The next day, I tell her how wonderful she is, and how she had a great day yesterday.

See what I mean? The possibilities are truly endless, and my list is continually growing. And just like my drunk best friend, she may have to take care of me one day.

What would you add to the list?
