It’s a Play Date! How to Throw a Simple Christmas Party for Kids | Columbia SC Moms BlogLast year I was watching a holiday show and the host held a Gingerbread House making party for her daughter and friends. It was such a cute idea and looked so fun! I decided then and there I would host a Christmas party for my kids the following year.

Fast forward 12 months and here we are! Two of my girlfriends and I decided we would have a Christmas party for our kids where they could celebrate the season, spend time together, and play.

I hosted the party at my house and we had such a great time, I wanted to share it with all of you! Unlike the birthday parties I throw, this was a lot more simple. Nothing extravagant, over the top, or too expensive. And it was all very easy! So, follow along to see how you can do it too!

The Décor

Since I already have Christmas decorations up in my house, I didn’t have to do too much. I decided to create a simple tablescape the kids would enjoy. And I did it for only $5! I bought a cute roll of Christmas paper at Dollar General and a spool of Christmas ribbon that resembled Santa’s belt. I covered the table with the wrapping paper and used the extra ribbon to add a some extra pizazz to the plates. I also purchased cute Christmas pencils for the kids and put one at each place setting. For the centerpiece, I put cookies and candy canes in a “jar” and placed a craft for the kids to complete on either side of it. Then I put a red cup at each spot. And it took me all of five minutes to set up. Can’t get any easier than that!

The Activities

To make the event more festive, we added a couple of fun activities for the kids. Here is what we did:

Gift Exchange: My girlfriends and I picked names the week before and each child picked out a gift for one other child. We had a $10 limit so we could keep it fairly inexpensive.

Christmas Craft: I bought a couple of cute foam Christmas ornaments the kids could make from Dollar General (have I mentioned how great this store is?!). Super simple and easy and it only cost me $2!

The Food

No party is complete without some delicious food! And, since this was a Christmas party, what better to have than Christmas cookies, candy canes, and hot chocolate? Mmmm… To make it easier on ourselves, we each made a batch of cookies. That way, the burden wasn’t all on one person.

So there you have it! An extremely simple and inexpensive Christmas party for your kids! Add your own spin to it with an alternative craft or activity. Get creative and consider ways you can use items you already have on hand to celebrate the holiday. It’s a fun way to get your little ones into the Christmas spirit while enjoying the season with their friends (and yours)!
