A year ago I was going to eat with my family at The Flight Deck in Lexington and a store in the shopping center caught my eye that I’d never noticed before. I walked into The Classy Cruet, and once I left, I knew that the shopkeepers were on to something.

One year later, I had the opportunity to spend an hour with one of the owners, Kaye Gerrald, at the store sampling some of their unique olive oils and vinegars. Kaye and her husband Greg were inspired to open the store after a trip to Italy where they ate true olive oil for the first time. These foodies came home and put olive oil and balsamic vinegar on everything! The combinations are endless and the results were delicious! They couldn’t wait to share their discovery with the Midlands, and the Classy Cruet opened it’s doors a little over a year ago.

What Sets the Classy Cruet Apart from the Rest

Ultra Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as well as Fused and Infused Olive Oils. It’s important to note that the oil at The Classy Cruet is 100 percent olive oil, as recent studies have noted that many “olive oils” found on supermarket shelves are not 100 percent oil. Their fused olive oils are made when the olives are crushed, and infused olive oils are made by infusing flavor after the olives have been made into oil.

Huge Variety of Dark and White Balsamic Vinegars. The varieties are astounding. I tasted everything from tuscan herb flavored oil (think Bonefish Grill bread and oil without the ground pepper added to it) and chipotle flavored oil, to strawberry and chocolate flavored balsamic vinegars. I dipped bread in the oils and vinegars and was able to taste a brownie which had been made with blood orange infused olive oil rather than standard oil. I also tasted several of the balsamic vinegars drizzled over ice cream, which was heavenly!

Personal Touch and Helpful Staff. When you shop at The Classy Cruet, you have the opportunity to taste as many of their varieties as you wish before you make a purchase. Once you’ve decided on one or several, the staff fills your bottle(s) for you. Kaye and Greg, along with their staff, are very knowledgeable about the oil and vinegar pairings and can make suggestions. Their website has a recipe section, and they also keep their Facebook page up to date with their latest recipe discoveries.

Samplings and Specialized Gift Sets. The Classy Cruet would be a great place to get holiday gifts for just about anyone! I went home with a sampling of different oils and vinegars, and my husband and boys enjoyed tasting the strawberry and dark chocolate balsamic vinegars drizzled over vanilla ice cream. We are hooked and plan to give olive oil and vinegar to all of our friends and family as well as keeping our own kitchen stocked with purchases from The Classy Cruet.
