It’s that time of year again! One of the Midlands’ most anticipated events, the South Carolina State Fair opens their gates this Wednesday, October 11 and runs through Sunday, October 22. If you are a newcomer to the State Fair, there are countless things for parents and kids to enjoy. But even if you and your family are SC State Fair regulars, there are some great new additions this year that you won’t want to miss!
The SC State Fair’s new website offers quick and easy mobile purchasing of admission tickets, ride vouchers, and concert tickets. Save and skip the lines by ordering online in advance, so you can spend your time at the fair enjoying everything it has to offer!
The South Carolina State Fair will feature Pay-One-Price ride days each day of the fair again this year. Enjoy unlimited rides by exchanging a ride voucher for a POP Wristband at any ticket kiosk on fairgrounds.
3. New Foods
It wouldn’t be the SC State Fair without treating yourself to some of the delicious and one-of-a-kind food options! The already impressive menu has grown this year to include some new favorites. Make sure to try out additional options like buffalo chicken gyros, southern catfish sundaes, friend bologna burgers, and the 3B Burger!
During all twelve days of the fair, children five years and younger are admitted free of charge! Save that extra money to enjoy some of the Midway Games or other fun attractions and offerings!
For all active and retired military, as well as their dependents, admission is free every day. Just make sure you bring your proper military ID along with you.
Opening day is Wednesday, October 11, and to celebrate the occasion, admission is only $1! This offer is cash only, and only available at the gate, so be sure to stop by the ATM before you come. You’ll also need that cash to pay $5 parking, which supports their scholarship fund (awarding more than $300,000 to students each year).
7. New Rides
Let’s face it, if you’re a veteran to the fair, you definitely have your favorites (Crazy Mouse, anyone)? But this year’s new addition, BulletTrain Roller Coaster, may become your newest favorite. The BulletTrain climbs 33-feet high before sending riders on sharp turns, banking curves, super-fast transitions and exhilarating drops – all hallmarks of a great freeform roller coaster. The ride promises to pack a lot of punch with high-speed thrills.
This year’s FOLKFabulous celebrates the traditions and spirit of Mardi Gras—both in New Orleans and in South Carolina. FOLKFabulous is not an event to simply observe, but an invitation to interact with artists and cultural traditions that make the Palmetto State feel like home. Enjoy hands-on art making, parades, jam sessions, pop-up displays, narrative stages, and demonstrations by some of South Carolina’s most accomplished traditional artists. Make sure to check it out in it’s new home, The Rosewood’s Building!
9. Lunch Break Promotion
Get away from school and work for a while, and take your lunch break at the fair! Between noon and 2 p.m. each weekday of the fair, exchange $10 (cash only) for an admission ticket. Enjoy all the fair has to offer and receive a $10 refund when you return to the ticket booth by 2 p.m.
10. Tons of Major Attractions
Whether it’s entertaining concerts like Brothers Osborne, Keith Sweat and Sabrina Carpenter, or exciting opportunities like Nascar Night, The South Carolina State Fair has something for everyone! Check out the Calendar of Events and make your plans to attend October 11 – 22!
