As I typed the title of this blog post, I googled “Fit Mom” and an array of websites and pictures popped up in my results. All of course, making me feel LESS fit than ever. I don’t even know how these women with their stair-step children, have 6-packs. They cannot be real-life moms. {Y’all know I’m totally jealous…}
How do you look like a fitness model with a less-than one year old?!
I personally have always been active. I grew up playing softball, running track, playing tennis, doing aerobics {I love me some step!} … and as of the last few years, I have been an avid walker.
Most recently I’ve been trying to keep track of my actual fitness level and activity. And while my android phone has a step counter, it’s only as good as when I am actually holding my phone or it’s on my person.
Guess what ladies … not all of my dresses have pockets and I’m not one of those who constantly walks around with my phone in my hand, which means 80% of my day, my phone is either on my desk or in my purse, not actually on me … counting my steps and tracking my every move.
As you can imagine, my fitness level can be pretty sad and depressing. If I don’t get up and do my 4:30 a.m. walk on the treadmill {3-4 days a week is that goal!}, I only get in maybe 800 steps according my my phone. And while I know that’s not totally accurate, I was really wanting something that could give me a more accurate idea of what I was actually doing during the day.
I mentioned to my husband the other night that I thought I wanted a Fitbit.
He pulled up Amazon and said, “Which one? Put it in the cart.”
And just like that! This momma has officially joined the Fitbit revolution. I opted for the new Fitbit Alta, in teal. As far as functionality, it does everything I wanted and more. When it came the other day, I spent all of two minutes getting it set up on my phone and charged and now I’m tracking my every waking movement … and even my sleep!
I may not get in 10,000 steps every day, but with this thing reminding me to get up and move every hour, you bet your sugar-bottom that I’m going to be excited to get up and get in some steps AND it’s going to track every time I do a lap around the building and climb those four flights of stairs that I try to do a few times every day!
I doubt I’ll have a 6-pack once this little “almond” is almost one {heck, I don’t know that I ever had a 6-pack!}, but I’ll be fit and healthy, and really, that’s all that truly matters!
