State Museum to Offer Free General Admission to Children 12 and Under

The South Carolina State Museum is providing *free general admission to children 12 years old and younger starting Saturday, July 28 through Sunday, August 12.

Guests can explore four floors of permanent and changing exhibits like Fill in the Gap, Eclipsing 50: The State Art Collection 1967-2017 and South Carolina and Reconstruction, 1865 – 1876. The Boeing Observatory will also be open (weather permitting) for solar observing. A new full dome planetarium show, National Parks Adventure and the latest 4D movie, ICE AGE: No Time For Nuts will be showing at an additional cost of $5.

*This offer is available for children 12 and under and valid for up to six kids per party with purchase of adult paid admission.

Teen Gaming Hour

We’ve got a Wii and XBox and you know how to play it. Join us to enjoy your favorite games. Welcome to bring your own game(s).

TeenScene: Summer Reading Wrap Party

Summer’s coming to an end and school is just around the corner but first it’s time to celebrate all you’ve accomplished — you’re a reading rock star. Join us for the ultimate pizza party. For more information call, (803) 785-3519. (grades 6 – 12)

Twilight in the Garden: featuring Coco

The big screen returns to Riverbanks on select Friday nights this summer. Explore Waterfall Junction then enjoy a family-friendly movie beginning at dusk (Waterfall Junction will open at 6:00pm and close just prior to the start of the movie). Food and beverages also will be available for purchase. More information will be posted closer-to-date.
COST: $3 Riverbanks members / $5 general public.

Kick It Karate

Kick it Karate is a free specialized karate class for all kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This SC Developmental Disabilities Council program takes place at Capital Karate in Rosewood every Saturday morning (pending holidays and cancellations due to weather).

Qualified and certified karate instructors take time to help those with special needs develop confidence and basic karate moves. There are three age groups:

  • Ages 3-6 class from 9.15-9.45 am
  • Ages 7-12 class from 10-10:30 am
  • Ages 13+ class from 10.45-11.15 am

Nature Discovery Walk

Join one of our knowledgeable volunteer naturalists for a fun and engaging walk along the park’s Boardwalk. Discover park wildlife and the amazing diversity of plant life that make Congaree National Park unique. Please wear comfortable footwear and bring water and insect repellent.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Southeastern Toy Soldier Show

Exquisitely detailed military miniature figures or the little plastic G.I. Joes from your childhood, they’re all here at the Southeastern Toy Soldier Show. Storytime and Activities Featuring A is for Astronaut & A Place for Pluto

Celebrate science and the planets in this special space-themed Storytime. Customers will receive a glow-in-the-dark star (while supplies last), and a coupon from our Cafe for a grilled cheese sandwich with milk or juice for $4!

Young Artist’s Festival

The Young Artist’s Festival is a three hour gathering of summer art camps in the Columbia area that highlights and introduces the various summer camp programs. Participating camps in all disciplines including music, dance, media, theatre and visual arts offer interactive experiences, exhibitions, performances and collateral materials to highlight their programs. 701 CCA also plans to incorporate STEAM workshops into its summer camp offerings which will be highlighted during the festival. This family friendly event celebrating young artists, ages 6 to 17, will feature performances from local arts organizations, an exhibition of works by 701 CCA summer camp participants, games and crafts stations where children can create new works of art!

9th Annual Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival

Come help Sustainable Midlands celebrate local food and the champion of the garden: the heirloom tomato! Join us on Sat., Aug. 11th from 1-7pm at City Roots (1005 Airport Blvd.) for a fun day of tomato-centered foods, music, beer and bloody marys! This family-friendly event will feature the PalmettoPride “Tiny Tomatoes” children’s area with Emerald’s Artistry face painting and balloon twisting, amusements, “Kids Mindful Yoga” by Fit Columbia, and more! Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 day of.

Improv 102

Back by popular demand! Participants will enter and exit a variety of scenes, donning personalities on the fly to make absurd setups work. Flexibility and a sense of humor will carry us all from “action” to “cut.” Previous attendees of our Improv 101 program will put their experience with wordplay and ad-lib dialog to good use. Program for teens.

Lope’s 3rd Annual Family Fun Day 2k18

Come out and enjoy an evening of fun and excitement with your loved ones while LOPE host it’s 3rd Annual Family Fun Day at Sesquicentennial State Park! This event is FREE and will feature lots of fun-filled activities and games, bounce houses, face painting, splash pads, photo booth, vendors, live entertainment and music while enjoying the tasty cuisines of SC’s Best food! FREE haircuts & hairstyles will be provided by KUTZ Barbershop & Hair stylist onsite. And FREE school supplies will be given to the families who participate in the activities and games provided at the event. LOPE’s purpose is to bring all families together in efforts to interact with one another in a positive atmosphere while bringing awareness that focuses primarily on the physical and emotional needs of our youth. Support the cause!
