Preschool Storytime

Storytime is a fun way to introduce preschoolers to literature. It includes books, storytelling, poetry and songs. For more information, call 785-3519. (ages 2 – 5 years)

Creative Corner: Pinhole Projector

Learn how to make your own pinhole projector to safely watch the upcoming solar eclipse. Creative Corner introduces new skills and techniques with fun hands-on projects. For more information, call 785-3050. (all ages)

Kroger Chef Junior

Please join us at your local Kroger store to receive your very own Kroger Chef Junior slicer that you can use to make Ice Cream Sandwiches!

A Kroger Chef will guide your child as they learn to create a tasty food item on their own. Each workshop lasts for approximately 20 minutes and includes activities such as decorating a cupcake or creating your own fruit pizza.

As part of every experience, your child will receive these Kroger Chef Junior items!

  • Apron
  • Chef’s Hat
  • Recipe Card & Box
  • Cooking Utensil
  • Patch

Each child will take home a recipe card that includes step-by-step instructions so that together, you can continue the experience at home with a made-from-scratch recipe! It’s a great way to foster a life-long love of cooking!

Kroger Chef Junior workshops are recommended for children ages 4-10 years old, but all are welcome! Please note, registration via Eventbrite is required.

Galactic Explorations

EDDIE’s eyes will be on the sky! Come mingle with astronaut characters, learn the science behind the total solar eclipse.

Activities include (Subject to change):

  • Create A Solar System Mobile

  • Design an Eclipse Model

  • Phases of the Moon Cookies 

  • Marshmallow Constellation Art

Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Time: 10 – 10:30 a.m.

Solar Eclipse 101

Join us at Sesquicentennial State Park to learn more about this once in a lifetime event happening right here in South Carolina on August 21! We’ll discuss why solar eclipses occur and how to view them safely as well as make a couple fun, easy take home crafts! Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Kids Club®

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

Back 2 School Explosion 

Back to School Explosion. Speakers, food, games, vendors and school supplies giveaway. Teaching youth that the decisions they make today, determines what happen BEYOND this MOMENT.

Solar Science

Get ready for the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse with Solar Science Saturdays at the State Museum, presented by SCE&G! Activities include:

  • Hovercraft Rides
  • Rocket Launching (weather permitting)
  • Creating Pinhole Projectors
  • Angular Momentum experience

Saturday activities during Pre-Eclipse Weekend at the State Museum on Sat., Aug. 19 will be included with ticket purchase.

Nothing Rhymes with Orange Storytime

We all know nothing rhymes with orange, but how does that make Orange feel? Left out, of course! But when Apple notices how Orange is feeling, the entire English language begins to become a bit more inclusive. Activities to follow.

Little Red Riding Hood

Big Bad Wolf can’t get any respect. He’s the laughing stock of the forest. He can’t even get the Three Little Pigs to answer the door. Just when he’s at an all time low, a little girl in a red hood happens by and he sees an opportunity! Will Big Bad live up to his name? Or will Little Red be able to outsmart him and make it safely to her Grandma? With a variety of puppetry techniques and plenty of humor, Little Red Riding Hood is an irreverent take on the classic fairy tale.

Lope’s 2nd Annual Family Fun Day 2k17

Come out and enjoy an evening of fun and excitement with your loved ones while LOPE host it’s 2nd Annual Family Fun Day Sunday August 20th @Finlay Park!

Family Fun Day will feature lots of fun-filled activities and games, bouncing houses, face painting, vendors, live entertainment and music while enjoying the tasty cuisines of SC’s Best Food Trucks!

FREE haircuts & hairstyles will be provided by KUTZ Barbershop & Hair stylists onsite. And FREE school supplies will be given to the families who participate in the activities and games provided at the event.

LOPE’s purpose is to bring all families together in efforts to interact with one another in a positive atmosphere while bringing awareness that focuses primarily on the physical and emotional needs of our youth. So come out and enjoy the fun and GET READY FOR THE ECLISPE MONDAY! Support the cause!
