Free Fridays at Riverbanks Zoo

Residents of Richland and Lexington counties will receive free admission to the park every Friday during the months of January and February. Guests will be asked to provide a valid driver’s license, property tax statement or vehicle registration as proof of residency.

Toddlertime

Storytime is a fun way to introduce preschoolers to literature. It includes books, storytelling, poetry and songs. For more information, call 785-3519. (ages 2 – 5 years)

Tween Extreme: Crafternoon

Books & Beyond: Happy Hearts Rock

Painting rocks are all the rage these days. The idea behind the project is simple —to promote random acts of kindness. Decorate your own rock and hide it outside the library, in our gardens, or somewhere else for someone to find and spread happiness and positivity in our community. Night at the State Museum: Mystery!

Join us for a thrilling Overnight adventure and help solve The Case of the Purloined Pendant!

Who done it? Was it the schoolteacher? The Civil War soldier? The colonial lass? Charles Townes himself? Search for clues and put together pieces of the puzzle with help from the museum’s own inhabitants, as exhibits ‘come to life’ to separate fact from fiction.

Night at the State Museum: Mystery! also includes:

  • A chance to sleep amongst the museum’s exhibits and artifacts.
  • Exploring constellations, planets, the Moon, and more in a special live, seasonal planetarium SkyTour.
  • A screening of The LEGO Movie 4-D Experience.
  • Little Caesars Pizza dinner.
  • Shopping in the Cotton Mill Exchange.
  • Coffee and continental breakfast.

Travel down the rabbit hole and join Alice, one of literature’s most beloved heroines, in her madcap adventures. Featuring updated songs from Disney’s thrilling animated motion picture, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland JR. is a fast-paced take on the classic tale. The ever-curious Alice’s journey begins innocently enough as she chases the White Rabbit. Her adventures become increasingly more strange as she races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game!

Click, Clack, Moo I Love You! Storytime

Little Duck and all of her friends on the farm celebrate Valentine’s Day by inviting a newcomer to join in the fun in this charming addition to the award-winning Click, Clack series from the New York Times bestselling and Caldecott winning team who brought you Click, Clack, Moo and Click, Clack, Surprise! Activities to follow.

Improvisational Dance for Kids

Improvisational dance is all about exploring and creating spontaneous, creative movement. Kids will have a blast finding new ways to move, collaborating to make short dances, and developing their own voices through a variety of improv exercises and games. Open to any kid who loves to have fun dancing (and who is 8-12 years old). There is a lobby for parents to stay nearby during this short, 1-hour workshop.

Bright Smiles Bright Futures Van

The Bright Smiles Bright Futures Van will be at EdVenture giving free dental screenings in honor of Take Heart and Smile Month. Special Appearances by the Tooth Fairy!

Jack and the Giants

Giants are supposed to be big, mean, and nasty. They eat anyone who crosses their path. But Flinch isn’t like other giants. He’s constantly picked on by his bigger brothers for being sweet, caring, and… a vegetarian! When he sneaks away from his home in the mountaintops to the valley below, he befriends a poor young boy named Jack. Soon he’s found a new home, but his bigger brothers won’t let him go that easily.

CMT’s production is a twist on the classic story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Featuring some of our largest puppets, this show is also big on heart!

We have this hour reserved for our special needs community and their caregivers who would like to come out and jump and play in a sensory friendly environment. This event will be held at the same time on the 2nd Sunday of each month. $11 per child (tickets available at the park). Price includes one parent/caregiver with child.

Friend Day

We are very excited to announce our upcoming “Friend Day” event! This first-ever event will be held at Pavlovich Ballet School on Sunday, February 11th at 5pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to get an inside look at the instruction and inspiration offered at Pavlovich Ballet School. This special occasion will feature performances by professional dancers of the Columbia Classical Ballet CCB, demonstrations by the students of Pavlovich Ballet School, instructor Meet-and-Greet, light hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction to benefit CCB, and shortened sample classes for all students in attendance. This event is free and open to the public.
