Free Fridays at Riverbanks Zoo

Residents of Richland and Lexington counties will receive free admission to the park every Friday during the months of January and February. Guests will be asked to provide a valid driver’s license, property tax statement or vehicle registration as proof of residency.

Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Discovery Day: Crustacean Nation

Whether shrimps, crabs or lobsters, crustaceans are taking the nation by storm! Find out what kinds of crabs like to dress up, just how big the largest crustacean is and much more. COST: $6 for one child (with one adult) per class. Plus admission for general public. Register for Class (ages 2-5

Time: 9:45 a.m. & 11 a.m.

Toddlertime

Tween Extreme: CrafterNoon

Join us for a crafternoon of fun just for tweens. Learn creative skills and techniques with interesting hands-on projects. All materials provided. For more information, call 345-5479. (grades 4 – 7)

Harlem Globetrotters

The iconic Harlem Globetrotters are coming to town with their unrivaled family show, featuring some of the greatest athletes on the planet. With incredible ball handling wizardry, amazing rim-rattling dunks and trick shots, side-splitting comedy and unequaled on-court fan interaction, this must-see event is guaranteed to entertain the whole family – creating memories that will last a lifetime.

The Globetrotters will face a great challenge this year, as the infamous Washington Generals are more determined than ever to beat the Globetrotters. The Generals, the last team to beat the Globetrotters, are now coached by a former member of that 1971 team. They are on a mission and will do whatever it takes to win, with a new strategy that’s sure to give the Globetrotters a run for their money.

Legally Blonde Jr. – ICRC Children’s Theatre

Legally Blonde JR. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle’s high school boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she’s not “serious” enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren’t mutually exclusive.  As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.

Paddington Storytime

Over 50 years ago, a small bear set out on the adventure of a lifetime. Since then, Paddington has charmed readers around the world with his earnest good intentions and humorous misadventures. Join us for Storytime featuring this beloved classic, in theaters now.

Jack and the Giants

Giants are supposed to be big, mean, and nasty. They eat anyone who crosses their path. But Flinch isn’t like other giants. He’s constantly picked on by his bigger brothers for being sweet, caring, and… a vegetarian! When he sneaks away from his home in the mountaintops to the valley below, he befriends a poor young boy named Jack. Soon he’s found a new home, but his bigger brothers won’t let him go that easily.

CMT’s production is a twist on the classic story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Featuring some of our largest puppets, this show is also big on heart!

Sensory Jump at Plex Hiwire

Sensory Jump – We have this hour reserved for our special needs community and their caregivers who would like to come out and jump and play in a sensory friendly environment. This event will be held at the same time on the 2nd Sunday of each month. $11 per child (tickets available at the park). Price includes one parent/caregiver with child.

Time: noon – 1 p.m.

Passport to Art: It’s All Greek to Me!

This month we’re discovering Greek pottery and composition. Join us in the studio and create a drawing inspired by black-figure pottery. At 1:00, take a tour of ancient Greek pieces from the CMA collection and illustrations of the mythology of the Minotaur on view in Henri Matisse: Jazz & Poetry on Paper. This drop-in program for families features a new hands-on art project each month.
