Meet a Park Ranger Storytime

Join us for a storytime and a special visit from a Congaree National Park Ranger to learn about some of our local wildlife and Congaree’s champion trees.

Bastille Day Puppet Show

Twilight in the Garden: featuring Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone

The big screen returns to Riverbanks on select Friday nights this summer. Explore Waterfall Junction then enjoy a family-friendly movie beginning at dusk (Waterfall Junction will open at 6:00pm and close just prior to the start of the movie). Food and beverages also will be available for purchase. More information will be posted closer-to-date. COST: $3 Riverbanks members / $5 general public.

City of Columbia’s Summer Movies Series

Bring the family out to catch a free movie with the City of Columbia every Friday night through the end of July. 

  • July 14 – “Finding Dory” Scavenger Hunt

Kroger Chef Junior

Please join us on Saturday, July 15th at your local Kroger store to receive your very own Kroger Chef Junior slicer that you can use to make delicious Banana Pudding!

A Kroger Chef will guide your child as they learn to create a tasty food item on their own. Each workshop lasts for approximately 20 minutes and includes activities such as decorating a cupcake or creating your own fruit pizza.

As part of every experience, your child will receive these Kroger Chef Junior items!

  • Apron
  • Chef’s Hat
  • Recipe Card & Box
  • Cooking Utensil
  • Patch

Each child will take home a recipe card that includes step-by-step instructions so that together, you can continue the experience at home with a made-from-scratch recipe! It’s a great way to foster a life-long love of cooking!

Kroger Chef Junior workshops are recommended for children ages 4-10 years old, but all are welcome! Please note, registration via Eventbrite is required.

Science of FLIGHT: Summertime Series

Come be one of the first to play in EdVenture’s exciting new exhibit, FLIGHT. This NASA-supported exhibit explores the wonders and science of flying. Sit in a real 757 cockpit and get a pilot’s view of the historic Gervais Street Bridge; test your piloting skills and experience the sensation of flight in three Boeing 747 flight simulators; put on wings and feel the wind in your face and it’s power in our wind tunnel and test the flying ability of your own paper airplanes.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Sensory Sensations Open Play

Opportunities to engage the senses and fine motor skills through open play! Program geared for young learners and those with other sensory challenges. Caregivers, please plan to assist your child in safely exploring the materials and activities.

Kids Club®

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

Join Willy Wonka himself and get a sneak peek behind the gates of his candy factory. We’ll have a special preview of the show ~ be the FIRST to see it! And that’s not all! You can join in on the fun and learn a few steps from our Oompa Loompas, play pin the tail on the squirrel with Veruca, do a live TV interview with Mike Teavee and Phineous, make a delicious chocolatey treat with the Gloops and participate in Violet’s bubble blowing extravaganza contest! And, while you are here, bag a few meals with Charlie Bucket and our friends from Feeding Children Everywhere! Throw in a photo op with Wonka and the chance to win your own GOLDEN TICKET to see the show, and it is sure to be a Wonkaful day!

Tickets for participants ages 12 and below are $10. This includes ALL of your activities and your photo (which will be emailed to you after the event). We’re also asking for a $5 contribution for ages 13 and up ~ after all ~ it is a GREAT cause! Sign up to be a part of the 10:00 AM tour or the 11:15 AM tour. Pig the Pug and Pig the Winner Storytime

Join Pig the Pug as he learns lessons the hard way with his footlong playmate Trevor by his side. Young readers will love the irresistibly quirky and funny illustrations that are paired with a relatable lesson of learning to share with others. Activities to follow.

Little Red Riding Hood

Big Bad Wolf can’t get any respect. He’s the laughing stock of the forest. He can’t even get the Three Little Pigs to answer the door. Just when he’s at an all time low, a little girl in a red hood happens by and he sees an opportunity! Will Big Bad live up to his name? Or will Little Red be able to outsmart him and make it safely to her Grandma? With a variety of puppetry techniques and plenty of humor, Little Red Riding Hood is an irreverent take on the classic fairy tale.

Dollar Sunday | Hampton-Preston Mansion

Residents of Richland and Lexington Counties are invited to take a guided tour of one of our historic house museums for just $1! This month, visit the Hampton-Preston Mansion for Dollar Sunday. General admission prices apply for any house tours after the first. Walk-ins welcome! The Hampton-Preston tour is available at 2:30 p.m. Other house tours are available at the regular times. Purchase admission and meet for tours at the Gift Shop at Robert Mills.
