Teen Battle of the Books Practice

The second annual Battle of the Books: Teen Edition is upon us, and we need your help to win! Receive copies of the competition books and practice trivia with your teammates before the big showdown on August 4 at Richland Library Sandhills. Registrations will be accepted throughout June. Age Group(s): Programs for Teens, 13 – 18

Time: 2 – 4 p.m.

Teen Gaming Hour

We’ve got a Wii and XBox and you know how to play it. Join us to enjoy your favorite games. Welcome to bring your own game(s).

‘80s Night Lock-in

We’re rolling back time for a rad night of dancing, trivia and activities. So, like, go find your neon, pop your collars, spike your hair and dig out the leg warmers for this totally gnarly party. For more information call, (803) 785-3272. (ages 13 and up)

Kick It Karate

Kick it Karate is a free specialized karate class for all kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This SC Developmental Disabilities Council program takes place at Capital Karate in Rosewood every Saturday morning (pending holidays and cancellations due to weather).

Qualified and certified karate instructors take time to help those with special needs develop confidence and basic karate moves. There are three age groups:

  • Ages 3-6 class from 9.15-9.45 am
  • Ages 7-12 class from 10-10:30 am
  • Ages 13+ class from 10.45-11.15 am

Americana Day

Celebrate the Red, White, and Blue with what it means to be American. Guests will have an opportunity to meet local Fireflies baseball stars and Glow with Mason, and flags will be flying in anticipation of the 242nd birthday of the USA! Learn about the art of Fireworks!

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Kids Club®

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

Tye Dye Fun

Let your imagination explode in full color to create your very own tie dye creation. Share your twisted style with your friends and family. All other materials provided but feel free to bring your own shirt or bag. Registration required. For more information call, (803) 785-3272. (ages 13 and up)

Storytime and Activities Featuring Neck & Neck

In this laugh-out-loud new book from the creator of the bestselling If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don’t!, a giraffe’s self-esteem is tested during a hilarious confrontation between unlikely look-alikes.

Beauty and the Beast

A vain Prince learns a valuable lesson when he is turned into a hulking Beast for his selfish behavior. It will take a young woman named Beauty to teach him the error of his ways. CMT’s adaptation has  both drama and comedy, and features detailed marionettes and rod puppets.

Time: 11 a.m. & 3 p.m.

Brookland Beach Bash

Welcome to Brookland Beach. Come surf Soda City-ish. We’re bringing the beach, minus the sand. Embrace all your childhood favorites (and current favorites, if we’re being honest). Free tubing + kayaking launched from Three Rivers Greenway, courtesy of event partner Palmetto Outdoor Center. All your favorite beach day games: volleyball, cornhole, frisbee, Spikeball, Kan Jam and more. Explore the family-friendly inflatable kid zone and relax to a mix of live music. A pop-up movie (by Fun Flicks) will close out the festivities. Parking: Egg Roll Station, Capitol Plaza, and behind Terra.

Backyard Saturday

Through nature play, families can explore and experience nature at Saluda Shoals Park. Each program will include two or three nature activities about the topic, cool biofacts, natural materials to touch/investigate, and an opportunity to explore in the Park. Ages 0–7. $5/Parking Fee.

Blythewood Bookworms – Spycraft

Passport to Art: It’s Really Magical

This month, get inspired by the art in the Ecos exhibition and create a piece based on magical realism. At 1 p.m. go on tour to learn about this style and how important it is to Latin American culture and traditions. This drop-in program for families features a new hands-on art project each month. Free.
