Kick It Karate

Kick it Karate is a free specialized karate class for all kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This SC Developmental Disabilities Council program takes place at Capital Karate in Rosewood every Saturday morning (pending holidays and cancellations due to weather).

Qualified and certified karate instructors take time to help those with special needs develop confidence and basic karate moves. There are three age groups:

  • Ages 3-6 class from 9.15-9.45 am
  • Ages 7-12 class from 10-10:30 am
  • Ages 13+ class from 10.45-11.15 am

Classic Car at Home Depot Kids

Share the nostalgic pastime of car modeling with your child in our classic car hands-on workshop. Together you can build a vintage General Motors-style wooden car to put on display or take for a ride “with no particular place to go. Once your vehicle is built, your child can customize it with paint and stickers. All Kids Workshop attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. Recommended Ages: 5-12. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron, and pin.

StoryfestSC 2018

StoryfestSC is an annual event celebrating family reading. It connects South Carolina families with books, storytellers, authors and illustrators. Activities emphasize early literacy skills in a fun, interactive way. StoryfestSC is the kickoff event for the statewide Summer Reading Program held in all public libraries. The event is free of cost for families. Participants can listen to storytellers, enjoy readers’ theatre and puppet shows, visit community partner tables, participate in a craft activity, meet an author, receive a giveaway book, and share the love of reading with their family members. Approximately 1000 community members from around the midlands attend.

Kroger Chef Junior

A Kroger Chef will guide your child as they learn to create a tasty food item on their own. Each workshop lasts for approximately 20 minutes and includes activities such as decorating a cupcake or creating your own fruit pizza. As part of every experience, your child will receive these Kroger Chef Junior items!

  • Apron
  • Chef’s Hat
  • Recipe Card & Box
  • Cooking Utensil
  • Patch

Each child will take home a recipe card that includes step-by-step instructions so that together, you can continue the experience at home with a made-from-scratch recipe! It’s a great way to foster a life-long love of cooking! Kroger Chef Junior workshops are recommended for children ages 4-10 years old, but all are welcome! Registration required

Nature Discovery Walk

Join one of our knowledgeable volunteer naturalists for a fun and engaging walk along the park’s Boardwalk. Discover park wildlife and the amazing diversity of plant life that make Congaree National Park unique. Please wear comfortable footwear and bring water and insect repellent.

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Family Storytime: Turtle Hurdles

Have you ever wondered if turtles can really move to a larger shell as shown in cartoons? Do all turtles swim? How is a turtle so different from other reptiles? Children discover what makes this ancient creature unique and why many species of turtles are threatened with extinction today. Students leave knowing how they can positively affect the future of turtles.

Time: 11 a.m. – noon

Kids Club®

They make; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a fun project. Sign up online or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

Cayce Field Days

Looking for some fun, FREE activities to do once school is out for the summer? Cayce Field Days with the CWC Junior Chamber is back this year for three Saturdays in June! Each week there are different crafts, fun fitness activities, tennis, yard games and much more. The Cayce Department of Public Safety will bring their firetruck on the 2nd.

All we ask is that you register for FREE so we can plan age appropriate centers for the kids. Hope to see you soon!

Storytime and Activities Featuring Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

With his trademark use of humorous verse and illustrations, Dr. Seuss addresses the ups and downs life presents while encouraging readers to find the success that lies within them all. Activities to follow.

Beauty and the Beast

A vain Prince learns a valuable lesson when he is turned into a hulking Beast for his selfish behavior. It will take a young woman named Beauty to teach him the error of his ways. CMT’s adaptation has  both drama and comedy, and features detailed marionettes and rod puppets.

Sensory Sunday

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and sensory processing differences are invited to join us for exclusive Sensory Friendly Days the first Sunday of each month from 9 – 10 a.m., first hour the museum opens! They’ll have the opportunity to explore the museum in a safe and accepting environment, and enjoy interactive, hands-on activities. 

This exclusive event will also provide:

  • A comfortable, protected and accepting environment.
  • An opportunity for parents to make connections with other families.
  • Special needs information for parents.

The Market Spring Festival

Celebrate Spring in South Carolina with this fun festival at the SC State Farmer’s Market, hosted by The Market Tea Room and The Market Restaurant. Enjoy live music and children’s entertainment. Dine from food trucks, at The Market Restaurant, or treat yourself to a Tea Party in a Box. Shop with creative vendors that showcase the amazing talent in our state. Partake in local beer, wine, and specialty drinks. FREE ADMISSION!

First Citizens First Sunday
