On the Move with Riverbanks Zoo

Can you swim like a fish? Slither like a snake? Join a Riverbanks Zoo educator in exploring animal movement with kids as they hop, crawl and wiggle their way through a story, song and activities.

Columbia Marionette: Make Me a Star

Jimmy wants to be a star but doesn’t think he has the talent to make it. He meets a crazy cast of characters, all reaching for their own stars, on the set of his favorite television show. With the help of his guitar-pickin’ grampa, Jimmy discovers he does have talent. Just in time to wow the crowd and win the contest. For more information, call (803) 785-3272. (grades K – 5)

Scribble Bots

Learn how to make a simple robot that draws on its own. With inexpensive materials children can let their creativity and ingenuity flow in this fun, science-based makerspace workshop. Ages 9-12, Programs for School Age Children.

Shrek The Musical Jr

Everyone’s favorite ogre sets off on a quest to save Princess Fiona from a dragon. However, it turns out that in order to ultimately succeed, Shrek must battle an even bigger obstacle: learning how to believe in himself and open his heart to others. Shrek the Musical JR is based on the beloved Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, and features a cast of fairy tale favorites, including Donkey, Pinocchio, the Ugly Duckling, the Wicked Witch, Peter Pan, the Three Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, and the villainous Lord Farquaad. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek the Musical JR is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family. General admission tickets for Shrek the Musical JR go on sale Tuesday, June 12 and can be purchased online at workshoptheatre.com, by calling the Box Office at 803-799-6551, or at the door the day of the show. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $10 for children 17 and under.

Kick It Karate

Kick it Karate is a free specialized karate class for all kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This SC Developmental Disabilities Council program takes place at Capital Karate in Rosewood every Saturday morning (pending holidays and cancellations due to weather).

Qualified and certified karate instructors take time to help those with special needs develop confidence and basic karate moves. There are three age groups:

  • Ages 3-6 class from 9.15-9.45 am
  • Ages 7-12 class from 10-10:30 am
  • Ages 13+ class from 10.45-11.15 am

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

4th Annual Midlands Family Expo

The original and biggest family expo in the Midlands and the only one of its kind offering free admission and free activities. Absolute Total Care presents this FREE event focusing on sharing essential resources regarding safety, health & wellness, pregnancy, special needs, education, child care, and other important family topics. Free activities include bounce houses, laser tag, face painting, stage shows, character meet & greets, balloon animals, and more!

Black Panther Day

EdVenture is starting off it’s 15th Anniversary celebration with Marvel’s Black Panther. Bring the whole family and enjoy a meet and greet with Marvel Superhero Black Panther! EdVenture’s Black Panther Day will be an event filled with activities for the whole family! Enjoy sidewalk artists, free face painting, African dancers, and learn the science behind Vibranium! This will be a day you will not want to miss! Events will be taking place in multiple exhibits in our museum, from Tinker Tech, to the Maker Area, and of course our feature exhibit, FLIGHT. Bring your whole family out for a day of fun! Wakanda Forever! There will be a special VIP Meet and Greet with Black Panther.

Family Storytime: A Bird’s Eye View

Utilizing live birds, reptiles and artifacts from both, students have fun discovering the similarities and differences of these strange animals that hatch from eggs. They may seem different at first, but students are amazed to discover just how similar birds and reptiles really are!

A vain Prince learns a valuable lesson when he is turned into a hulking Beast for his selfish behavior. It will take a young woman named Beauty to teach him the error of his ways. CMT’s adaptation has  both drama and comedy, and features detailed marionettes and rod puppets.
