Chad Crews: Build a Better World

Chad Crews takes readers on a magical journey to learn interesting things, meet fascinating characters and go on amazing adventures all while discovering how they can make the world a better place. Tween Extreme: Lego Club

City of Columbia’s Summer Movies Series

Bring the family out to catch a free movie with the City of Columbia every Friday night through the end of July. 

  • JUNE 30 “The Secret Life of Pets” Bring your favorite stuffed pet

EdVenture’s Americana Day

 Celebrate the Red, White, and Blue to get ready for the 240th birthday of the USA, and learn what it means to be American. Guests will have an opportunity to meet local baseball stars, and flags will be flying!

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

BE QUIET! Storytime

In this hilarious new book from acclaimed author Ryan T. Higgins, all Rupert the Mouse wants is to star in a beautiful, wordless picture book. He has plenty of ideas about what makes a great book, but his friends just won’t stop talking! Activities to follow.

Little Red Riding Hood

Big Bad Wolf can’t get any respect. He’s the laughing stock of the forest. He can’t even get the Three Little Pigs to answer the door. Just when he’s at an all time low, a little girl in a red hood happens by and he sees an opportunity! Will Big Bad live up to his name? Or will Little Red be able to outsmart him and make it safely to her Grandma? With a variety of puppetry techniques and plenty of humor, Little Red Riding Hood is an irreverent take on the classic fairy tale.

Lake Murray Boat Parade 2017

The theme for this year is “A Star Spangled Celebration.” Call or stop by the Lake Murray Country Visitors Center to get registered (2184 North Lake Drive, Columbia, (803) 781-5940). The best place to view the Boat Parade is via boat, but it can also be seen at the park sites at the Lake Murray Dam. Free, but if watching from one of the Lake Murray Dam park sites admission is $2 per car.

Time: noon – 10 p.m.

Location: Parade begins at Bomb Island heading towards the dam

Lake Murray Fireworks Celebration 2017

Beginning at dusk (approximately 9:15 p.m.) South Carolina’s largest fireworks display on beautiful Lake Murray. Fireworks will be set off from two great locations: Spence Island and Dreher Island State Park. The show is choreographed to a patriotic concert that will air simultaneously on B106.7. The best places to view the fireworks are Dreher Island State Park and both parks at the Lake Murray dam. Bring a chair or blanket, picnics are welcomed. No Alcohol Permitted at any of the locations.

Time: approximately 9:15 p.m. (gates at Dreher Island State Park close at 8 p.m.)

First Citizens First Sunday

General admission and is only $1 for guests on the first Sunday of every month! PLUS enjoy 4-D movies and/or planetarium shows, for only an extra $5 each!

30th Annual Carolina Celebration of Liberty

The Carolina Celebration of Liberty is a flag waving celebration of our freedom and those who have sacrificed to preserve and protect it. With a cast of more than 400, thousands of flags, and indoor fireworks your whole family will be thrilled with this wonderful presentation!  Free, but must reserve tickets in advance by calling (803) 256-4251.

Time: 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
