Discovery Day: Meerkats

The savanna is home to many different kinds of animals! Dig down below to meet a family of meerkats and find out why they are always on guard. Ages 2-5.

Toddlertime

LEGO Kids

Join the block party — use your imagination, curiosity and problem-solving skills to build different Lego creations. Family Trivia Night

Kick It Karate

Kick it Karate is a free specialized karate class for all kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This SC Developmental Disabilities Council program takes place at Capital Karate in Rosewood every Saturday morning (pending holidays and cancellations due to weather).

Qualified and certified karate instructors take time to help those with special needs develop confidence and basic karate moves. There are three age groups:

  • Ages 3-6 class from 9.15-9.45 a.m.
  • Ages 7-12 class from 10-10:30 a.m.
  • Ages 13+ class from 10.45-11.15 a.m.

LEAP: Romp & Rhyme Babytime

Literacy, Enrichment and Play (LEAP) is an interactive program for babies and their caregivers that uses books, rhymes, games, fingerplays and songs to encourage literacy through learning. For more information, call 785-2630. (ages birth – 18 months)

Celebración de la Herencia Hispana

This event provides an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate and recognize the Hispanic culture in South Carolina. Enjoy this family friendly day featuring live music and dance performances, authentic food for purchase, cultural displays, kids activities and lots more.

Featuring:

  • Live music by Pachanga and more.
  • Dance demonstrations from Compania de Danza Herencia Latina, performing a traditional Aztec dance, and Sincopao, performing a fuzion of Venezuelan and Spanish flamenco dances.
  • Joel Rodriguez will teach guests the traditional Salsa and Bachata.
  • A special fashion show by Latina Project showcasing beautiful traditional Latin American dresses, each with its own historic or cultural reference.
  • Vibrant cultural displays from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Colombia, Peru and more.
  • Kids Activities, including a chance to conquer the “unbreakable piñata.”

Plus, bring your appetites because authentic Latin American food from Los Bellos Portales will be available for purchase!

All Celebracion de la Herencia Hispana performances and activities are free to the general public and museum members.

Meador Acres Chestnuts Fall Fest

We invite you out to our farm to experience rural life, relax, learn and have fun! There will be walking tours of the Chestnut trees with an education & history of Chestnuts. Learn about honeybees and their importance to farming. Say hello to our farm ducks and chickens. We will have chestnuts & products for sell from the farm. We will have local vendors set up for you to shop early for Fall & Christmas and support local business. The Blended Bakery with their vintage Trolley will be joining us for your enjoyment of a sweet snack or enjoy lunch at the farm! Some tables will be available, hay bales for seating or bring a blanket for a picnic. Yard games will be set up for the adults: horseshoes, bean bag toss, connect four & ring toss. For the smaller ones, a bounce house will here for fun! We look forward to opening our farm & orchard to you and meet new friends along the way! Come out & support your local farms & shop local vendors & support small business ! No pets please.

Schoolhouse Rock Live!

A pop culture phenomenon comes to the musical stage in Schoolhouse Rock Live! The Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, tuneful songs is not only making a small-screen comeback, it’s lighting up stages everywhere!

Schoolhouse Rock Live! follows Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction.”

Dino Tales

A vain Prince learns a valuable lesson when he is turned into a hulking Beast for his selfish behavior. It will take a young woman named Beauty to teach him the error of his ways. CMT’s adaptation has  both drama and comedy, and features detailed marionettes and rod puppets.

Little Shop of Horrors

Village Square Theatre brings the beloved mean green monster plant musical Little Shop Of Horrors to life. A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world. The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

Dollar Sunday | Robert Mills House

On Sunday, September 16, visit the Robert Mills House & Gardens, one of only five National Historic Landmarks within Columbia, and explore architecture and daily life in the 1820s in Columbia. The Robert Mills House exemplifies the skill of the first architect born and trained within the United States who designed some of the nation’s most prominent buildings, including the Washington Monument. Tours leave at the regular tour hours at 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m. Purchase admission and meet for tours at the Gift Shop at Robert Mills located at 1616 Blanding Street. General admission prices apply to all other properties.
